Hi dear ones, so... it's been a long, long time since I was here last.... I have just made a commitment to re-induct and re-ignite my need to return to the sanity of low carb living. I weighed in at 170 pounds this morning - have never been over 165 before so this is a new high (or "low", depending on how you look at it)... We are in the throes of house-building and I am very busy with my life coaching certification and activities (my coaching community is in Boston so I travel there almost weekly (2.5 hours each way)), not to mention the leadership program - all of which keep me extra busy. I have also been doing a lot of singing (Prague in May and Montreal in July)...

My DBiL was diagnosed with renal cancer a month ago, had most of his left kidney removed (he's only 41 for crying out loud, and the healthiest guy I know), so I've been doing a lot for my sister and their family (meals, sitting, etc.). My aunt (mom's yougest sister) was diagnosed with metastatic ovarian cancer also about 5 weeks ago now, had an incredible amount removed (ovaries, tubes, full hysterectomy, pieces of large and small intestinge, some stomach lining, some liver, etc... yikes!!) and now has ports in her sides and upper chest - they are looking at 8 months of chemo. She has no partner so my mom and other aunt and my cousin are doing yeoman's duty with her... frankly, we all sort of know it will be a small miracle if she survives this. Makes me so damned angry - yes, she made a lot of poor choices in her life but she also spent it 'toughing it out' (you know, it's a sign of weakness asking for help, grrrrr) Well, you know, if you supress it and 'tough it out' for long enough, the body has to give at some point, doesn't it. <<sigh>> So there is a lot going on...

I will be getting on the forum here that I see is set up for returning re-commiters and so I'm going over there now to get set up and get some accountability established for myself...

I have missed you guys and this thread - I love facebook and have found that keeps me connected with lots of old friends (since I'm out here in the boonies, it's been a godsend!) but a wave of love washed over me when I signed on here today and say Maggie and Barb Keith and Henry and so many other dear friends.... hope you'll take me back into your fold!

much love - Rachel

Rachel --- SOOO glad to have you back!! You can do it. Last summer, it was your recommendation of Judith Beck's book that set me back on track. Maybe now it's your turn to put her ideas and LC living in effect. I just returned from a week of vacation and am sure that I am going to have to crack down with some serious recon work to be back where I want to be. I'll be there with you.

Rachel...so good to see you back girl. Now if anyone can find Brenda and Peg maybe they can be lured back too?

Judy: Happy belated Birthday...hope it was a great one.

You guys, I am so excited that it's really hard to sit here. Only 5 more sleeps and I get to see my neice that I haven't seen in 30 years! We've all agreed to meet in the most beautiful park...looks like there will be about 18 of us! Finally a reunion of my side of the family. Well, not all of my family. My brother has not been invited. Probably cause his first ex-wife will be there. No big deal. It's his loss. My neice is 6 months pregnant with her first baby. I'll also get to meet her husband and my ex-sister in laws husband. And...my nephew is going to try and make it too. OMG, I don't think I will make it until Sunday.

It's just a shame that I've let my weight get out of control. But, I'm sure my neice isn't coming just to see how fat I am. Rachel, I'm just 1 lb. above you so we're on a pretty even keel. Time for both of us to bend over and take the kick in the butt that we deserve.

Shell..don't worry...I'm drinking water like it's going out of style. This heat wave is beyond funny anymore. I CANNOT cool down. And, with the heat comes the hot flushes. Lucky me. I keep all the shades pulled and the windows closed at home. We do have a/c in the bedroom but the rest of the house is roasting. It's been over 40C (112F) every day for over a week. When I work outside I kind of go to where the shade is and follow it around the yard. The poor dogs are really feeling it, so they get soaked down regularly. Saturday night we had a terrible heat storm and it actually hailed...the size of my thumbnail! But, it didn't cool down anything. Lots of lightning.

Okay..boss is coming so I'm going to look professional here and do some work. lol Take care everyone. I'll keep you posted on my visit.

Hey lovelies!

Donna, I LOVED to hear about the family reunion - there is nothing so sweet as to reconnect with people you once knew and loved! It sounds like this meeting with your niece will be particularly sweet, I'm so delighted for you!! I'm not so psyched about your heat wave - UGH! they are the worst, aren't they? Lots of liquids, really. even if it means more potty trips!!

Judy, I'm so glad Beck jump-started you! It really was working for me in Armenia and I got down to about 143, which I'd give my eyeball to weigh these days! LoL! I find that I am overextended in my life, which is my usual MO and which I am trying to change on a fundamental level. Part of learning about how to change is to stop will doing all the things I think other people want me to do and doing and being more of what I want and need. I've spent a lifetime associating what I do and what I produce and how hard I work with my value. That is I intrinsically believe that the only pathway to being liked, loved, respected, etc... is through accomplishment.

Doesn't get me very far when, once the fleeting joy of having people like the thing I made or did is gone, I have to do or make something else or risk not being liked/loved/etc... i feel like a 5 year old, learning to read again - this is all new and scary!

Shelley... I'd love to see pics of Kass and I was so thrilled to read about your RUNNING the other day - you have ALWAYS been my exercising inspiration and you continue to be - you are my hero!

I'd love to see Peg and Brenda again - and I miss Alida and Barb, too... do they post still?

So I weighed in at 169 this morning - it's moving in the right direction! I need to remember that induction is usually a time of fast loss so I'm counting on that to happen - keeps my spirits up! no plan to exercise yet, but I'm sort of doing what Beck suggests and getting my head around this before getting crazy and doing too much, too fast. I'm sticking to low carb and made a batch of Maggie's cereal last night (and had some this am - yeah!) - so far it's a one day at a time approach for me!

"...been so long, I'm glad to be back..... so I'm... cuttin loose, from the noose... that's kept me hanging around.... yes, I'm back (in black). Ah - always was an original head-banger.. and AC/DC really hit me just now! LoL!!
see you again soon! XOXO

Darn Darn Darn........... I was typing away and lost the message. I'm trying to give myself a present ---I'm looking for a housekeeper. When I clicked over to my email, I lost everything I was saying to you guys.

Quickly--
Donna, GET ANOTHER AIR CONDITIONER. Those temps will kill you. Enjoy the reunion.

Rachel, Love the ticker. It is definitely you. I had so much that I was saying to you, but no time to go back now. Congrats on today's -1. You are on the right track now.

Re: Barb --she shows up pretty often when she is in town
Alida -- has been making it by some on the weekends
Peg-- hit or miss, busy with the repairs and move to a new house
Brenda -- haven't seen anything from her in quite a while. She must be working lots and lots.

Today I was thrilled to see that the vacation only led to a 1 lb gain. Considering I gave myself permission to have green chile enchiladas and sopapillas in Taos for my birthday, then had the leftovers for dinner, I consider that a major victory.

There are so many forest fires around us that the sky is grey. Can hardly see the mountains. And does it ever STINK! Add that to the heat and I could get real miserable....but, I'll just think about this weekend and all will be well.

I'm down a lb. this morning, but that's nothing new. It will probably be back tomorrow and gone again the next day. This seems to be the new game that I'm playing now. No amount of tweaking is helping but I won't give up. One day!!

I'm very busy at work so I'll have to run. Take care everyone.

Donna, hope today was better. Fires do stink! I hope they don't get any closer to your town.

This was a good day at my house --- Terminix came and did their regular pest control service. My new housekeeper came today (she has worked for a friend for 18 years and is wonderful!!), and my car got it's after vacation detail job. What did I do? I went to yoga and feel like a spoiled princess. Hey, this is greatness --- at least for a day.

Back to reality today........... I finished the last of the touch ups from this summer's paint. We had to add some 1/4 round at the bottom of the moulding and it needed caulking and paint over the caulk. One cabinet door had to be trimmed and it's edge needed to be repainted and then there was the place in the sun room where a da*n shelf fell and messed up the wall in 3-4 places. Sometimes I hate the never ending nature of home repair and renovation.
