I gotta jump in here and just say...
I think going bare legged with high heels and a dress, especially if it's above the knee, simply looks HORRID; I don't care what the fashionistas say, or how good the *stars* think they look, it just makes them look, I dunno...cheap?? LOL!
There is absolutely nothing more classy(and sexy, I might add) than that little black dress, (and I'm not talkin' the kind that leaves nothing to the imagination) and black heels with sheer black or smoke colored hose.
I'm with you, Ju, I do wear tights in the winter with my casual dresses, but when it's an after 5 affair, wedding, or more dressier occasion, hoisery(sheer) wins out, hands down.

I do like the bare leg with strappy sandals with a summer dress; not to mention it's just usually to dang hot for hose in the summer.

Speaking of summer...we're in the hot zone again and the humidity is crazy! blah!!
It held me to a 1.65 mile run this morning; I totally wilted and couldn't go any further.
C'mon Autumn!!!

Happy Monday guys!!

You go girl....... I'm with you. Actually, there are very few people over 21 with legs that look good uncovered. I'm not the only one with knobby knees.

Let me extend this conversation to say that you won't find me in shorts above the knees, either (not even to yoga). Capri pants are my summer staple. I do like the new longer length burmuda shorts...... have several pairs of those.

Well, thanks to Shelley the Birthday-Rememberer, I can join in. Happy Birthday, Bert--and many healthy years to come!

Judy, I think hosiery in winter makes perfect sense. Bare legs are for summer sandals and sassy sundresses.

Shelley, please don't send us that hot weather! We've been enjoying autumn since the middle of August, and we're not ready to let go of it. We wanted to go sailing today, but the breeze wouldn't cooperate. And now a long, slow rainfall has set in. That's fine...but not for being on the lake.

I'm staying off the scales, and trying NOT to think about how fast I'd like to drop the weight I gained. It took a lot longer than two weeks to put it on, and I can't afford to get discouraged until it all goes away. The first whoosh was great, but now I just hope for .5-l lb./week--and plenty of time for relearning the WOL. I can tell you I feel instantly healthier, and digestively more comfortable.

Life is good.

Looks like everybody is staying busy! I'm entertaining myself on LCE by giving advice to other people. Hah! That's the way I keep myself on track. At least I know the theory--and I have a lot of experience. "Do as I say, not as I do," as my dear old dad used to say.

Last night, we went out to eat with friends. I acquiesced to an Italian restaurant, figuring I could get a grilled chicken breast or something like that. Wrong. I ended up ordering chicken marsala (the menu said grilled) with a medley of vegetables. Wrong again. I picked through what appeared to be a breaded chicken breast swimming in a very bland tomato sauce, with two strips of soggy green pepper. I also chose an olive salad--I suspect the vinaigrette had lots of sugar in it, so I drained off as much as I could. It might have been worth it if the food was basically tasty, but it wasn't. Ick. Oh well. I'll choose the restaurant next time and it won't be that one!

I babysat for a while yesterday with my great-niece, Ellie. She's 2 1/2--a charmer! I could hardly believe how cheerfully she woke up from her nap--and found me there instead of her mommy! What a little conversationalist she is. Guess it runs in the family.

Week is wearing on. Hope it's going well for ya'll!

Good morning everyone! I've been following along but haven't had much time to post. Invoices are being downloaded right now so I have a wee bit of time.

I've been so busy with my grandkids and loving every minute of it. The school shopping is all finished so now tomorow after work I will make the drive again...this time to pick up all 3 of them to come to our house. We'll spend the night baking and making foam projects to enter in the fall fair. I haven't even had time to pick out some of my scrapbooking to enter. I'm hoping they will win ribbons but as Kaedyn told his mommy...it doesn't matter if we win, we'll have fun with gramma anyway. Gotta love the little ones.

I'm still fat...that's the only way of putting it. 24 lbs above goal and it's not moving. Once things settle down for me I hope to get back into exercising but I'm not promising anything to anyone else or myself. I've been having a lot of pain in my muscles so I'm not planning on overdoing it. Biggest Loser starts on Tuesday and that's always been an inspiration for me.

We leave on holidays next Friday. Not really too sure where we are going. Dh thinks we will drive the Oregon coast but I know we'll never finish the drive. He hates it! It's a very slow drive which I like...and the tiny coastal towns are gorgeous. He likes a faster pace so we always end up switching over to the I-5. We won't be going as far south as we normally do. We're trying not to spend as much money this year plus it's just far too much driving. Hmmmm, saving all this money on gas might mean I might have to do more shopping. Sound good to you? lol We are again taking my dmil *sigh* I'd love to see the score book to see how many brownie points I've accumulated. I did have a talk with dh about giving me a little break every now and then and having him spend some time with her so I can do something besides babysit. We'll see if it happens.

I'll try to get back in here before we leave..if not, see you all when I get back.

HI, Donna. A vacation is great to look forward to--even with the prospect of MIL along for the ride. I encourage you to make sure the DH spends quality time with his own mother. Disappear for a while whenever you can!

Happy weekend everyone.

Good Saturday Morning to all the chick-a-peeps!

Just flying by to say hey. I'm working on my second cuppa, so I'm beginning to feel almost awake! LOL!
Definitely nothing new here in the heartland except we seem to be in a crummy weather pattern. Bouts of drizzle, rain, then sun, then steam...ugh, then repeat over and over and over....
Several HS football games were called due to BIG lightening last night...yikes!
I would've been terrified sitting on the upper deck...on ALUMINUM stadium seats with lightening bolts popping around! I have a reeeeally healthy respect for T-storms, believe me!

Anyhoo...with our return of heat and humidity, my running has suffered. I do good to get 1.65-1.85 miles before I totally wilt...aka *jello legs*. But, I'm NOT quitting...just letting up a bit until we get some more cool, brisk fall weather.

OK...Kassie is calling, rather loudly, I might add. She thinks it's time for her faithful servant[that would be me...LOL] to dish up some brekki!

Everyone be well and have a great weekend!
PS: Donna...have a fun holiday!

(((hugs all around)))

Sunday afternoon. Lovely day, but the rain's on its way. Back to school (art school) tomorrow. It seems like the two weeks since our last class flew by.

As far as my LC restoration, now comes the hard part. I did a clean two weeks of induction. No cheats, no slips. No wine! Averaged about 1500 cals/day, and have been consistently in BDK (benign dietary ketosis). I dropped 5 lb the first week, and nothing more since. So I'm now back at my latest "set point" weight and holding. The question is, can I "keep the faith"?

I think some tweaks are in order. I'm going to cut back on hard cheese (cut the cheese?), while adding more veggies. I need to keep the calories low--at any rate, no more than 1500. Cheese is calorie-dense, and not that exciting.

Most important, I need to stay the course. Now is not the time to chicken out, having made such a good start. The fact is, I do feel better, which I attribute to avoiding alcohol as much as anything. And my body really doesn't like digesting starchy food, so that helps, too.

I'm thinking of the many years we've been hanging around LCE, and feeling grateful for a place to touch base through all life's ups and downs. Hope you're all coping and conquering this week!

Barb, like Shelley, I have no doubt that you will be successful. You have made it through the hardest part........ getting started again. Now you are on a roll, keep it up.

Coping and conquering pretty much describes my weekend. I conquered my grades on the new grade program. I coped with the rain. Today was rainy day 2 -- from my journal
Quote:
Rainy day again today. I thought I would get a walk in this afternoon, and by the time we (dog and I) got around one block, we were getting soaked. To make sure I got some steps done, I did mall walking. It was a successful trip. I got three tops and a pair of jeans for less than $25. The tops weren't just t-shirts, either. I was pleased. I was also pleased with the panties I found in Old Navy --- three pairs for $12. The same panties were $15 a pair at Victoria's Secret. I am way too cheap to pay that kind of money for panties.
Like I said, I did some conquering.....

Thanks for the encouragement, my friends. I won't let you/me down.

Judy, I call that a really successful fitness effort! I'm always in search of the perfect panty, and I would never have thought of Old Navy.

Right now though, I'm just excited about the prospect of fitting into the fall clothes I already own, and that's major incentive.

I know Donna's getting ready for a trip. But where is Peg? Probably the stress of moving? Also, from time to time, when I see her pictures posted in the photo gallery, I wonder about Heather. Anybody know what became of her?

Ah--I hear the newspaper plopped in my doorstep. Nice and early. I'll have time to scan the bad news (and do the puzzles) before I head for class this morning. I'm packing a lunch today--feel like a kindergartener.

Happy Monday.

I pack lunch every day........ cafeteria food is less that tasty and definitely not LC! Besides, I want that 30 minutes away from kids.

Have a good day at art gallery school.

I, for one of a million, am saddened by the death of Patrick Swayze. He was not only a hot movie star, but also a 30-year husband to Lisa Niemi, a rare model in today's Hollywood culture. I count Dirty Dancing and Ghost among my unforgettable lifetime favorites, and always will. RIP, Patrick.

On the home front, I step hopefully on the scales every morning, and then give myself The Lecture. This is where I was in April, when I last did induction. Being good...big whoosh...then nothing. So I quit. This time, I can't quit. The Lecture is all about health and well-being. The problems of sugar, "starch," alcohol. The fact that it took a long time to put it on, and I shouldn't expect miracles. The importance of stopping that Creep NOW!! Okay. On with the day.

I have so many events on my calendar for October--most of which involve some kind of study and preparation. Not to mention tests! I try not to think about it all in a glob. There really IS time to do it all, if I'll be organized and disciplined. But wait...I was retired! What happened??

Shelley, I hope the weather has cooled off for you. I'm impressed with your dedication to running, and wish you well. I don't think I'll ever run again, but I'm looking forward to outdoor walking, even into the cold weather.

Judy, how do your students relate their classroom study of economics to the situation in the U. S. today? Does it make it more "real" for them?

Hope all is well with our "missing" friends.

A BIG ditto on that for me as well. Except, the msn article about him did NOT even mention his unforgettable role as Orie Main, in the epic TV mini series, North and South. That was one of THE best mini series; every bit as moving as The Thornbirds, IMO. Wow.

OK...another first for me this morning...ran 2.50 miles before the legs went to jello status! har!
Humidity is still crazy here due to that wacky stalled out low pressure system that pulled up all that gulf moisture and gave us BIG rains. Maybe we'll get a little sun later today, but I'm sure it will feel like a sauna if we do. ack!

I may become a working woman again. More about that via email when things are in place.

everyone have a great week!
