P. S. Our Birthday celebration evening was wonderful. We revolved in the lounge at Skies for a one-hour 360 degree view of Kansas City at sunset. I love that! The single malt scotch was nice, too.

Then we went to Lidia's (famous Italian chef) for dinner. I had octopus for an appetizer (it could have been a whole meal!) nicely grilled, on a bed of arugula. For dinner, I chose chicken breast sauteed in a buttery lemon sauce, with fresh spinach. I had two glasses of Italian pinot grigio.

All this was well within the parameters of low-carb--with a little extra allowance for the alcohol. Not too bad calorie-wise (neighborhood of 2200 for the day). And I'm still "purple" today.

I've been reading so much lately about the harmful effects of refined carbohydrates, I was a little horrified watching so much pasta being consumed across the table from me. Let's hope this impression persists.

Yours for better eating.

Sunday morning...still not used to how dark it is!

Very sad news yesterday. One of my wonderful neighbors, a hearty, friendly man (the "last person you'd expect") died suddenly of a heart attack after a round of golf. He was in his 60s or 70s, I guess. There are several widows living in this building, but we don't approve of suddenly having new ones.

Now is good time to re-read the parts of my low-carb books concerning how terrible refined carbohydrates are for the health of the heart. After January, I'm definitely making an appt. with my doc for a complete blood panel and other health checking.

We should have a pleasant sunny day today. Hope you do, too!

What a weekend. Miss O was here for slightly over 24 hours. It was full time around the clock attention and activities. We met her parents halfway this afternoon. She fell asleep before we got out of the city limits. We came home and took a nap. There's a reason that people have kids when they are young.

Hi, Judy. Watching my neighbors herd their grands, I get the picture! Isn't it wonderful to enjoy them--and then return them?

We had a big day sailing on Sunday. Usually we avoid Sundays because of the speedboat traffic, but we couldn't resist a bright, windy afternoon. Sure enough, we had waves and wakes to deal with--which made for some sailing excitement. At one point, we decided to head for a beach area where we could bail the boat. We ended up accidentally tipping the boat on its side and swamping it! Luckily, we were in shallow water, so we had our first practice with righting and really bailing, under ideal conditions--that is, no threat of sinking or drowning. We ended the day tired and wet, but feeling like much more experienced sailors.

On with the week. Hope it's a good one for ya'll.

fly by
on my way to hit the shower; just finished my run, which was a short one...only 2.10 miles. The hip and back continue to complain even after 3 days "off", so I take that as a sign to pull back on the mileage. Oh well...nobody said it would be easy to be a runner, eh?

I've got 5 cardigans ready to sew; and 2 more cut and ready for the design application. My sewing room is a mess...but it's my mess. LOL! All part of the creative process, don't ya know!!!

OK...off to hit the shower....then make a run to the fabric store, then hopefully the rest of the afternoon can be spent in creative bliss.

Judy...oh yeah, I soooo remember when DGS was that age and would come for visit...but I loved every tired and exhausted minute of it! LOL! But it makes you wonder if they have the metabolism of a hummingbird...they eat so little and are busy BIG time!

Barb...do you guys wear a floatation device when you are on the water? And I"m wondering, how was the water temperture?? With our cool down(except for that weird 93 degrees, yesterday), I'm thinking most of our lake temps are waaay down.
Take care!!

(((hugs to all!)))

to infinity and beyond!

Back from an hour walk. Gorgeous day! I'm ready for a shower, too. I'm a real stinker.

Shelley, we definitely have flotation devices in the boat. It's the Law. Life jackets for each of us, plus floating seat cushions. Usually I wear my life jacket (mostly for a back cushion against the thwart) but not always. We're both good swimmers--but anything can happen. The water was cool, but not breathtaking yet. With so much splashing over the bow, we probably won't have many more sailing days left--even if the air temp is warm and sunny, the water will be COLD

Tuesday morning, oh-dark-thirty. Wonder where Donna is today? Hope she's having a good time.

This morning I slipped on a pair of corduroy casual pants I bought at Penney's a few weeks ago--been saving them for cooler weather. Lo--they fit better than when I bought them! Good thing they have elastic around the waist, because they will be lots roomier in days to come. On the other hand, my "test pants" don't zip yet, so I have my low-carb work cut out for me.

I was really, really mad at myself for letting the Weight Creep have his way. During the summer, it's easy, when I'm just wearing loose, cool clothes. But I remember now that one thing I enjoyed when I was maintaining my weight was not wondering from season to season which clothes I could still wear.

One day at a time.

Take care of you!

Up and at 'em bright (or dark actually) and early! It's fun to see birthday greetings here at the LCE party.

I kind of wish the Whoosh Fairy had paid me a birthday visit. But no. I'm at a bit of a stopping place at the moment, and reminding myself that LC is typically a stop-and-go sort of thing. As Dr. Atkins assures me, "It HAS TO work!" And, of course, the whole point is to restore a lifestyle, not a goal weight.

I finally figured out why my ice/water dispenser has been frosting up. Air leak in the chute door. When I read the fine print in my service policy, it says that nothing about the ice maker or the door dispenser is covered. In fact, it appears that nothing short of total breakdown is covered. So...I guess I'll just check the chute periodically and push it closed by hand. Some insurance. Luckily, it's not my health insurance. Not yet anyway.

Have a great day, ya'll.

Happy Birthday, Barb!!

Call the dealer for the refrigerator. They can order and install a small part that will make the door work correctly again. The same thing happened to our new refrigerator. It was apparently manufactured with a defective part. I have no idea what it cost..... DH handles that.
