Shamrock March Vets keep on tracking

I was busy posting in the Feb thread, when I noticed Judy's comment--it's over! Maybe Shelley can dodge in here and add a shamrock or something to the new thread. Spring is on the way!

    I'd say she is lucky.
And I agree. Grit your teeth, Judy. Being a mom lasts forever.

Congrats to Canada for earning the most Gold--actually the most gold ever! I wish I could have stayed up for the show, but I crashed at 8:15 and didn't wake up until morning. I think I was emotionally drained by the phone incident.

I've got to get squared away on my low-carbness after a bit of indulgence, too.

Welcome to the new week--and new month.

I don't think you missed much Barb. The opening ceremony was fantastic. The closing ceremony was boring. One singer after another after another...and rap isn't my style of music. I was grateful when I could change channels and watch Amazing Race. All in all I really enjoyed watching all the sports...even ones I know nothing about. I just wish there was more broadcasted for the paralympics. Those people have to try much harder than the regular olympians and I think they should get as much coverage. I guess it comes down to finding people to pay for the advertising.

Another gorgeous day here. I've put away my winter coat and brought out a light jacket. And, seeing as Spring is here I'm trying very hard to get back on track with my eating. I will not give up. I hate the way my clothes feel, and I hate to look in the mirror...so there is only one thing to do about it. The fight has started!

Judy: I hear ya! We will worry about our kids until our dying breath. And some days I think my kids are trying to get me into the grave early. lol

It was another cold day in the neighborhood today.... but at least the sun was shining.

Poor DH---he hit the ultimate stress wall today. His new phone croaked on him. In fact, this is the second phone that has failed in the past two months. (DON'T BUY A BLACKBERRY!) After determining that the operating system was corrupt, he went to the Sprint office and after a substantial wait and some discussion ended up with a palm pre -- the same phone I have. All is good, they set up his account and neither he nor the store realized that it is the same email account and password he used when he set up my phone--- and that makes a big difference. My phone quit working and lost it's data. It took a while to correct and required a hard reset for both our phones. I can highly recommend the Palm backup process. I ended up only losing my text messages which I am to lazy to delete anyway. Dh initially went into a tail spin, but in the end, it all ended well.

Bad week for phones in this group. What a pain to lose all your email, Barb. I used to back up my email in PDF format; but the process was such a hassle, I quit that after my last tech writing gig. Yeah, those Blackberries... I had one some years back and it was quite problematic; lots of software issues, lots of lost data and time spent with tech support that didn't fix anything.

I already miss the Olympics - such a nice break from regular TV and normal news casting. I just wish NBC saw fit to broadcast the games outside of primetime. I just could not stay up to watch a lot of it. I think Canada did a superlative job all around.

The biopsy from my forehead came back positive, so next week I'm booked into the Mohs clinic for a consultation. The nurse emphasized this is the highly curable form of skin cancer, and urged me not to stress on it. Still, I'm a bit unsettled, as I had that very spot checked a few times before, even less than a year ago. I was always told it was nothing other than typical a old age growth. So, either it changed in the last year, or this nurse practitioner is much better than the dermatologists I saw in the past. Her English wasn't good, but her eye sure was sharp!

Terry, I'm sure glad that nurse was on the ball. It's so annoying when medical practitioners don't listen or seem to care. Canada has a huge shortage of doctors and nurses. Our little hospital here has been hit hard. The ER is only open 2 days a week...Tuesday and every second Friday. Lord help you if you get sick on the other days of the week because they won't answer the door at the hospital. You have to drive an hour to the nearest doctor. And now, I've been told that I don't have a family doctor. Because I haven't been to the doctor in over a year it seems the only doctor here isn't taking new patients which I would be considered seeing as I've never seen him. Well, if we could keep a doctor more than a year then maybe I would get to see one of them. So, if I do get sick, I guess I have to make that hour drive and go to a walk in clinic. And this is what I pay big bucks to have a medical coverage?

Judy: I have no idea what my phone will do. I only use it to make calls. I figure I spend so much time playing on the computer that if I figured out my phone it would be more time out of my day. Hope you get it all straightened out though.

I am furious with my soon to be ex daughter in law. I found out yesterday that she has been fooling around on my son for a long time. The fellow that she's with lives in a room above the bar...sounds like he has a lot going for him! She's definitely going through her second childhood...I just worry for my grandkids. I still want to smack her!!

Oh my--a plague of plagues this week! I can almost pinpoint the date in my life when each new increment of techology became a necessity--beginning with the electric typewriter and the photocopy machine, let alone the computer and the mobile phone. The lost e-mail in my case wasn't a tragedy--it needed clearing out. But several layers of anxiety gave me a PITA. Judy, believe me, I will avoid buying any kind of new phone if at all possible for the next ten years. BTW, AT&T will not insure an iPhone. They probably get ripped off pretty often.

Terry, I'm optimistic about your coming treatment, and pleased that somebody was on top of their profession. Best wishes on that. Please keep us posted. I had a scare recently (an irritation not healing in an intimate spot). A nervous visit to the ob/gyn put that to rest, but any kind of cancer is an awful idea to live with even for a short time. In addition to a general check-up appt. (with blood tests) I've scheduled a mammogram. It's been 18 months. I absolutely count on being healthy, and try not to get careless with the maintenance work.

Donna, I can't imagine not having convenient access to some kind of health care. An ER only open once in a while? Kind of defeats the idea of Emergency care, doesn't it??

Thanks, Shelley, for the shamrock. Only two weeks until St. Patrick's Day.

I took my tax info to the preparer yesterday and he returned my completed forms in 24 hours. Let me tell you, it's worth what I pay him to get all that done! The paperwork is humongous, even though this year, I think I have the world's simplest tax picture. Hardly any income, hardly any deductions. (I DO have income, just not the kind with complicated taxes to figure). I'm not sure I could ever do this myself, TurboTax or not.

I spent two hours at the museum today, getting a headstart on our studies in Baroque/Rococo. Interesting and dramatic paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. This endeavor keeps me centered.

Hey--the weekend is already in sight!
    Take care of you.

That's for sure. I have at least one kid a week that has a lost, stolen, or damaged iphone. Sometimes they have to pay for the new one, sometimes the parents do. A palm-pre can be insured......... mine is. Of course the better news is that even though Sprint is substantially cheaper than AT&T, fewer people are on Sprint. Their phones don't carry the black market demand. (FYI--AT&T corporate offices are in Dallas. This area was saturated with their service and plans early in the game.)

Terry --- positive thoughts coming your way re the biopsy.

Donna -- is your son going to seek custody of the children? Sounds like they would be better off with him.

As it happens, the Sprint corporate offices are in Kansas City (actually a Kansas suburb--Overland Park). They have had their ups and downs as an employer, as well as a service provider.

No Judy, I don't think he is even though he's had so many people tell him he should. Micayla was never legally adopted by him because her biological father refused. So, he wouldn't get her. He figures he will probably get them within a year anyway. Especially if she is still in party mode. He's nothing more than a convenient babysitter for her right now...she's never home. I think he's looking forward to getting his life in order and letting her have to stay home for awhile.

Maybe time will work things out for both of them. She'll get tired of the kids and he'll get his head straight. At least she's not keeping them from him. Will Micayla's dad get into the mix for her?

TGIF (tomorrow)............... I don't think I need to say more.

I cannot wait! In an hour and a half I will be sitting in my grandkids school...they are all playing in airbands. This is going to be so cute. Kaedyn is extremely shy, but he wants to do it by himself. My ds says he's been practising for days. We just heard about this last night so it was iffy if I could take the afternoon off. Then I decided that with everything going on it is important for the grandkids to know that we are still in their life. So...I'm going!

Judy: Mic's Dad doesn't do much with her. He lives in Alberta now and he's married with 2 little boys. He spends time with her when he HAS to. His wife is really good with her but that's not the same. The newest is that now ddil (soon to be ex, I guess) has decided it might be best for the kids to spend alternate kids with her and ds. I don't this it's good for the kids...but, I'm staying out of it.

This weekend we are going to town to visit my friend who had the surgery. She's just about ready to go back to work. Says she gets tired easily. She's invited us to dinner...and to see her new puppy that she gets tomorrow. It's a Flat Coated Retreiver. They had one before and had to put him down last summer. She's had one heck of a time finding a breeder and finally located one in Whitehorse. She's so excited. So am I. I LOVE PUPPIES! lol

Leaves have now come out on my honeysuckle. So, dh decides he should build a new arbor for it. Silly boy...how in the heck am I going to twine all those branches over a new arbor. Especially if it's got leaves? Men.

Dd turns 33 next Sunday so I told her to go to the hairdresser and get a new do and that would be her gift from me. I haven't seen the result yet but I sure have had a lot of people stop me and say how nice she looks. I figure a new hairdo can lift anyones spirits.

Have a good weekend everyone...I plan to.

Quick trip to Dallas today....... DD was having some health problems and ended up in the emergency room for dehydration. She needed her mama. Mama wasn't about to let her tough itout on her own. If she can keep down some food and liquids, I'll go home tomorrow.

Get well wishes for your DD, Ju! Glad you are close enough to go *mama* her...that's a good thing!
I've had a few phone calls from our DD in LA when she or DGS is sick, and it breaks my heart I can't go help her. sigh.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend. It's already half over....sheesh!

Sunday morning. Today is Celebration of Women Sunday at our church, so the whole service will be led by women. I'm serving as liturgist. We have two guest preachers from other churches in the Presbytery. I hope our current pastor search committee has some good women candidates on their list.

Judy, I hope your daughter recovers quickly. Having a mom nearby is the best therapy. Donna, that also applies to new hairdos and other beauty treatments. By the way, what's an "airband"?

My weight has been absolutely stuck for more than a month, so I guess I can safely assume that whatever I'm doing is maintenance. I'd like to drop another ten, but where I am is okay. My clothes fit. The main thing I'm doing right is getting to the gym at least 2x a week for class with weights. I enjoy it, and the results are measurable.

Shelley, good to see you dropping by. We like your hugs. Hope everything is going all right for you at work. Bet you're seeing even more signs of spring down there in OKC than we are in KC. Tiny leaves and shoots are beginning to sprout. They are predicting a very wet spring.

I got my taxes done, and it's a much better result than last year, when I owed a bundle because of insufficient withholding in my retirement severance. Uncle Sam giveth and taketh away. But hey, compared to most people on the planet, I live like an empress. So no complaints.

Speaking of retirement, it's hard to believe I've been a free woman for two whole years this month. It's even harder to believe that people are still slogging away in their cubicles, doing what I used to do. I still can't sit still for very long at one time, and the warm weather definitely calls me outdoors.

Take care of you, my dears.
