| MaryKay, don't sell yourself short. "Vets" on this forum are only those who are "not newbies" with newbie questions, and who are comfortable in their WOE's. Nothing to do with length of time in WOE, or any certain amount lost. Newbies are certainly welcome to visit, but in this corner of the world we like to think we have a handle of what we're doing (LOL, sometimes we're surprised!) and are busy getting there and staying there. Frankly, my dear, you seem suspiciously like a vet to me anyway, come to think of it, I suspect that's a good reason to keep this thread where it is. It's hard for so many newbies to get the focus "off" using the scale, calories, etc as a measurement of success. Yet for some of us, tracking is a useful exercise, an intellectual one, for finetuning our WOE's, or for accountability to ourselves. However, this isn't my thread, and think it's up to the originators.....

| Hi all! I'm baaaaaack! How great to see MaryKay here, and SO GREAT to see you again, Brenda! I've missed your posts so much! BOTH of you are most welcome in this forum. Also, good to hear from you Law1. Judy, let us know how the interviews/job thing worked out! As you will discover, some of us jost are so comfortable posting here we don't track faithfully, but come here for "reporting" and support. I'm one of those. I tried fitday, and like it, but just don't seem to remember to post. I have Diet Power loaded on my home computer and used it faithfully for a year before I started work. Because we are networked here, I can't load software very easily on my computer:( . I just returned from about 10 days in AZ. It was visiting family mostly, so VERY hard in the eating category. I gained 5 lbs I discovered this morning. I'm SO grateful that it wasn't more! I weighed in at 176, but suspect that some of it is water. I flew all day yesterday and can't see my ankle bones! I'm home now until we fly to our son's wedding in Japan in July. Look forward to informal "tracking" as I have been doing, with all of you. I think your idea of advertising in other forums is a good idea Brenda. Why don't you do some inviting and so will I as I "peruse" the different forums? Peace, Peg 1/1/03 205/176/155 5'8" |

| Hey Peg! Welcome back. Sounds like you had a great, well-deserved (if calorious) vacation in the sunshine. Nice to have family in warm places, and very nice to get away for 10 whole days. Neato. I'm using DietPower now, too. I don't know if you have a Palm or compatible, Peg, but I understand the DietPower folks are planning a Palm version for people away from their computers. Funny, even though I'm around the house quite a bit, I still find I often need to write a note to myself in the kitchen so I can remember what to enter by the time I reach the office:silly: OH wow, your son's wedding, in Japan, to boot! That's really exciting! Have you been to Japan before, Peg? I'd love to see other people joining here, but I want to make sure it's ok with Judy, Law, Purple--and didn't Rachel check in here, too?? You guys made this thread such a warm, supportive place. Meanwhile......I need to add a couple of things to DietPower while I can still remember them.......Have a good one!

| BC and Mary Kay....... Welcome!! Sorry I've been MIA for a few days. It's the last week of "real" school, and I'm desperately trying to finish one term and be ready to start a summer term on Tuesday. On top of that we are updating our bathroom and the new tub tile was laid today. I have some serious cleaning to do this weekend --- maybe the painting will get done, too. The marble for the new counter top and the light fixtures or on order......... then it's on to shower curtains and window curtains. I may decide to make those, but only after the summer session ends (a 2 week minimester) You guys are more than welcome to join in here. I posted a note on the challenge forum and in the Atkins forum looking for new blood and didn't get any takers. Maybe you guys will be more successful. Mary Kay said that the thread might get more interest if it were in another place, however, when Law started it, the reason for it's placement here was to help out those that weren't Newbies, but instead to support those who had been with it long enough to both want and need continuing support. Often we found that we had to be concerned with calories or tweaks that Newbies were not yet ready for. Unless you guys feel strongly that it should move, I'd kind of like to see it stay here for us "long timers." PEG!!! Welcome back.......... I missed you. I'm glad you had a good vacation. You were desperately in need. And now an upcoming trip to Japan--- cool. Is DS's fianc? Japanese. or do they both just live and work there? DD's job hunt is not going swiftly. In fact, it's going quite slowly. You may remember that I have said before that she needs to embrace this WOE. I'm afraid that that is a factor in the situation. She's quite smart, has good grades, and is a good worker, but lookism may be hurting her chances. As for me and my WOE -- there have been a couple of times lately that it has been hard to find good choices (like the Mexican food luncheon today where I just ate the cheese out of the enchilada and picked at some other stuff). I am however, still hanging in a sig weight. Summer is sometimes harder for me to control --- I'm too close to the refrigerator. Bottom line on what I need to do the most right now is start some regular exercise. DH was thinking about challenging DD --- he's quit smoking if she'd counter with weight loss. I need to get in on it too with some exercise. We'll see if any of that happens. |

| Hi. Well, been looking for a home. I'm not in the 100+ group, cause I'm shooting for 80. I'd like to be in your group. Right now I am in the middle of a Curves weight loss challenge and posting daily (started it in the Newbies, just cause it is a different diet and this way people can see the meals and stuff). But I'm kinda doing a mix of that and my good old Atkins. I'll be back on Atkins when this is done anyhow. My problem with Atkins,I finally decided, is just that I am not too fond of most veggies - and was struggling in my 4-5 month. Just got sick of it. And needed something to get me back to tracking (fitday). This challenge has done it. So far not a big loss (I'm a glacier) - only 4 in 3 weeks, but I have been Atkins for 4 months, and at a pretty low carb count, so didn't really expect miraculous results. But I am posting fitday every day, planning my meals for the day and sticking to it (as much as possible) I'll be happy to join in the June tracking bunch here. Thanks for the welcome.

| Judy, it sounds like lots of things keeping you pretty busy. Very exciting to get a new bathroom--I can only imagine! We're in the process of picking wood and tile to put in new flooring, but the size of the job seems daunting right now. Much less finding something decent in our price range. I feel for your DD. Perhaps a family challenge would be good incentive. Certainly good for both your DD and DH if they could get enthusiastic about it. This isn't a great summer for young people up here to find jobs, either, and I just heard an NPR story that in interviews with recruits in the Armed Services, the overwhelming reason for joining was that no other jobs were available..... Judy, funny you should mention having more trouble with weight and control in the summer. That's my experience, too. Mary Kay!!! Welcome. Pull up a blanket to the campfire! (I say that because it's 42 degrees this morning.) It's great that you found a home here. I think this will be a good place for you to find what works for you in a supportive atmosphere. Ok, here's yesterday: Wt 111 NetCalories 1313 Fat 56.5 Carb 101 - 35.8 = 65.2 Protein: 120 25/36/39 Too much of everything yesterday and still ravenous all day--probably my carb choices, since it wasn't the ratio. Reflected by being back up to 112 this morning....

| LOL Judy, I guess it's good to see some advantage to humidity. Frankly, other than luminously glowing skin and evaporating quesadillas, I can't imagine too many. My parents lived in Houston a number of years, and as a kid we lived in Miss, La, and Alabama at various times. Can't say I miss the pre-air conditioned life.

| Hi all! How good to be back in this Forum! I missed all of you! I'm putting off writing today, as always on Saturday. I've lost four of the five pounds I gained on vacation. Must have been water weight just as I suspected. Also, I've eaten clean since I got home. Helps to be in my own house where there are no "cheats." DH does the cooking, so is careful what he buys and prepares. I know, I'm lucky!! So is he!! Judy: Thanks for the welcome back! I missed you too. And you are right. I needed the vacation. It was visiting relatives mostly, so not lying in a beach chair and sunning. But, it was away and it was pretty good. DH and I started talking about retiring and moving. It turned into a much more difficult subject than either of us knew. We continue to "negotiate." Spent last Mon., Tu., and Wed., with my brother. Monday was the 1st anniversary of my Mom's death. It was SO good to be with him. We spent the day going through her pictures and papers. It was truly a blessed time. My DD has moved to SoCa. She starts her new job on Tues. The kids are in school I think. I haven't talked to her for about a week. I finally emailed her yesterday. The time difference (3 hours) between there and here is going to be difficult to manage. My dear grD has been "im'ing" me most every night. She is 10. It's good to hear what she can say from her perspective. I weighed in at 172.2 this morning. Very happy about that. I got A LOT of new clothes to take on vacation. Some were getting tight before I came home and I was getting a little worried. I didn't weigh while on vacation. It would have scared me! I've eaten "clean" for two days including no sweets. The sweets craving is ENORMOUS in the afternoon. I'm trying to decide whether to gut it out or try something that is "legal" to quell it. Any advice? Brenda, SO GOOD to see you and hear you again. SO GLAD you're back. MaryKay, join in any time! We love company. It's so good to open this thread and find more than just Judy and me! Law1 joins in every once in a while. We haven't seen Rachel for a month or more. Elyssa (purplefrost) was with us for a while, but she is completely snowed under with the end of school teaching chores (as are you, Judy!). Peace, Peg 1/1/03 205/172/155 5'8" |

| Wow! It's so great to see so many people here. BC, we certainly welcome everyone who is beyond the very beginning questions because we are trying to help each other with issues that arise after we've been on this WOE for a while, rather than with the basic questions. We were afraid that Newbies would get too confused by some of the issues here. I know when we first started the thread and discussed where we should put it, I didn't think I was "allowed" to be on the Veteran's forum because I wasn't at goal (or even close). I was told that you don't have to be at goal to be here, so we chose this. We certainly could move it, perhaps to the Challenge area. I would be interested in others' thoughts. I haven't been tracking and that has not been good. It really helps me to stay conscious of what I am eating. I still struggle with a basic issue: I sometimes seem to be totally "in the zone" with my eating and it seems very easy to stay on track. Then, for no explicable reason, I fall out of "the zone" and struggle. My switch doesn't seem to have any obvious trigger. I am "out" right now. Maybe some tracking will help me get back "in". I hope everyone will keep reporting in!

| well, things are status quo. No movement on scale. But I did a KMB (KickMyButt) session at Curves and really, really felt it. I'm really seeing the change in the mirror from increasing the intensity for the last few weeks. Would like to see it on the scale, but need to quit checking every day too. Having a holiday weekend of eating type. Not off plan, but maybe a couple too many LC treats - but not feeling bad about it - realize it's just part of this being a WOL and enjoying what I do.

| Hey Gang! How good to "see" you! Good to "hear" from you MaryKay. Well, another pound gone this morning. Yesterday I really pounded the water! Now I've lost all five pounds I gained on vacation. I weighed in at 171 this morning. Since I'm back to where I was for a couple of weeks, I am hoping that I can continue to go down and not stay here! Though, I must admit that I am pleased about the way I look and the way my clothes fit. I looked at myself in the mirror after showering yesterday and can see that I need to continue to lose the fat in my hips. It's just not fair that it comes off one's arms, b**bs, face first and the rest just waits until it feels like it! I've been feeling REALLY sleepy in the afternoon. This is pretty new for me (last 2 months or so). I seem to have lost the benefits of the energy that I felt at the beginning of this WOE. It's entirely possible, I suppose, that this round of sleepiness could be that I am still "jet-lagging" it. I got home last Wednesday night and the time difference is 3 hours earlier there. (Arizona) But, overall, I just don't feel as though I have as much energy as before. Supplements haven't changed. I'm eating more carbs that I used to eat. Yada, yada. Sunny and a little warm here today. At least it's out of the 50's! I hope you all enjoy your weekend. Peace, Peg 1/1/03 205/171/155 5'8" |
