Morning, Rise and Shine!

It's a gray day here, but for the first time in weeeeeeks, no rain expected. Nothing exciting planned for today except a major exercise blast this afternoon (and lots of housework before that, just to get me in the mood) I finally feel like working out a little--good thing. You'd think that when I was throwing up most every day I'd be losing weight, right? But NOOOOOooooooo. Not me! I actually gained while I was sick, probably from a combo of inactivity and only being able to tolerate higher carby things in my tummy Whodathunkit! So back to the grind, back to tracking. <insert dramatic big sigh here>

Hope your day is interesting!

Good Morning Brenda!

It's grey and windy here too, but I'm still going out for my 2.5 - 3 mile run this afternoon. Even though it's a year away, I'm already in training for my second degree black belt test next June; which means I was up at 5 am doing push-ups, squats and our "new" crunches. I slacked off a lot after my test last June, so I've got a long way to go to get back to what is recommended before the test (150 of each total, broken up into 3 sets (50/50/50 or 60/50/40).

Glad to hear you are feeling better and are becoming more active; I always feel better when I can work out!

Bob

Mornin' Bob!

OK, I'm game.....what are "new" crunches? Not that I'm a great fan of old crunches (probably necessary, but evil, evil, evil). Love to know all the various means of self-torture.

And major congrats on training for your 2nd degree black--that is MAJOR! Woohoo!

Brenda,

Thanks, but I'm only "training". Let's see what happens next June. My 1st degree test was killer; a 12 hour day with no stopping. I was sore for 3 days afterwards and couldn't sleep that 1st night. Every time I would be almost asleep, I would "see" some part of the test and my body would react. After 5 or 6 blocks, kicks or punches, my DW got up to sleep on the couch because she couldn't sleep with me twitching and jumping around.

The "new" crunches are simple, but easier on your back.

Lie on your back with your hands clasped behind your head, elbows pointed toward the ceiling (sky, if you're outside ). Tuck your heels up close to your buttocks, then keeping your heels as close to your legs as you can, raise your knees and press them against your elbows using only your abs. Your buttocks should lift off the ground slightly while pressing your knees to your elbows. Return your heels to the ground and repeat. Be sure not to "pull" on your head, as this may stress your neck. If your head/elbows come up a little to meet your knees; that's OK. The key is the squeeze when knees and elbows are in contact.

This is a great way for people with back problems to get their abs back into shape, since there is little stress on the lower back; as in situps and some traditional crunches.

Bob

Ok, gotcha--that sounds sorta like what I call reverse crunches, only with legs more in the air. I'll have to try them started in a tucked up close position. It does sound easier on the back. My favorite though, is the roman chair, super slow.

Well you deserve more than lots of credit for even training, Bob. Although if I were your DW, between the nocturnal martial arts practice and your nocturnal "cons" I'd be wary of you after dark!!!

Good day!

It is nice to hear about all that exercising going on out there. Not from me, stuff going on after work every day and not waking up early enough (and alert enough) before work.

Brenda, I wished I had been at Woodman's when you were there with your dad! It sounds like it would have been interesting to observe. Bless you for your patience with him.!

I made some bad choices yesterday. My daily quotations tend to reflect my frame of mind that morning. So far, today is going well as far as being OP.

I wish you all a happy LC day!

Honestly Ilse, yesterday was hilarious in hindsight. At the time though, I was wishing I had Valium or a martini or something As it was, I did take GABA when I got home.

Hey, bad choices happen. You'll do better today.

As a certified crunch-head I applaud you Bob. I was doing so many crunches (on the carpet) I wore a hole in my back (seriously) Now I use a mat (much better) duh!
Also I took TKD for a year and a half (made it to purple belt). Not only were the classes a great workout, but I learned many great stretches I still use today. Although I know I have forgotten most of what I learned, I'm confident I could deliver a swift kick to any nere do well if needed.

Brenda, great to see your shining face! How are the migranes?

Hi Gregg. Knocking on wood and crossing fingers, I've only had two "almost" migraines in the last weeks.

Ah, did them thar crunches this afternoon, myself. Doubt if I could deliver a swift kick on cue, but I could probably out-lotus an opponent:silly:

Wow! you all are so inspiring - I've been such a slacker about doing the abs exercises - even the easy "bicycles" the phys. therapist gave me to do last week. Yep, I have TMJ that's mainly being treated by strengthening the abs. Oh, the other "exercise" is "clucking" (30 reps, 6 times a day). A cluck is similar to the tsk-tsk you make when you pull your tongue off the roof of you mouth. Ours is not to question why...

I gained 7 lbs on vacation earlier this month. :( Three pounds evaporated almost overnight, but the other 4 lbs seem to like it here and are wanting to stay around.

So, this was the week to get serious again, but it's harder to get back into the groove than I thought. To make matters worse, it's cherry season - a major weakness for me. Today, I bought 18 lbs to can and I've already eaten 1/2 a pound. Supposedly cherries are very low on the glycemic index (20), but last year's experience taught me they are not at all condusive to weight loss. Oh well...

Okay, okay! enough procrastinating! I AM going to go do some ab work RIGHT NOW! (If I don't, you all owe me a kick in the butt - okay?)

LOL Teel, 18 pounds of cherries!!! I couldn't handle that--they are just too darn good. Doubt if I'd have stopped at a half pound.

Abs for TMJ?? Wow. What next? Bicep curls for hemorroids?? (Just KIDDING!) If it works, it works. So have you done your abs or is a swift kick wafting its way to you in cyberspace????

<KICK!*#@Q>

Ah... thanks, I needed that. Yes, I was letting it slide (again); but now that you've spurred me on I did 60 bicycle heel touches and another exercise for stabilizing the neck, shoulders, and back. I'm "clucking" as I type.
