Talking Happy Memorial Day

Hi everybody, I hope you are having a good holiday weekend. I ate too much yesterday. Didn't have bacon and eggs for breakfast, and ended up grazing most of the day on nuts and leftovers. Back on track today. Had my bacon and eggs and did a weight workout.

Take care all and have a nice holiday!

Yes, a great Memorial Day to everyone. Hope those of you who are Barbequeing have better weather than we have! The storms yesterday knocked out our amplifier/splitter system the TV cable connects to, so $150 later we are back in TV-land today. Heavens we should go without re-runs an entire day Better that than lose the TV's though, I suppose.

No grilling, and maybe not even any cooking today for this girl! The family hash-slinger needs a holiday, too, right??? So I may make some bangles, or agonize over flooring samples, or just put my feet up and take a snooze!

Have a good one!

Having a lazy Memorial Day weekend, myself. No BBQ's here, today. Cool & rainy and not inviting at all. All fur-kids are currently napping and I'm tempted to join them.

I did take some time to watch a replay of the dedication of the WWII memorial. I think it's very lovely. Time like this I wish my dad could be here so we could go see what they built for him and his fellow veterans.

Remembering my dad at this time also. I do miss him.

Been working on a couple bedrooms - since DD is now officially moved out, setting up more guest room type - missing furniture that she took. Getting rid of old school stuff she left and has no interest in. She just didn't bother cleaning out the closet (and under the bed). But not working too hard at it.

Howdy all!

Since the day is almost over, I thought I would tell you our excitement for the day. We went out and bought petunias, pansies, and impatiens to plant this morning since we are going to have BC and Maggie's weather tomorrow. We got them in and I bought a new "soaker" hose. I turned it on and it was less than stellar performance. So, I left it on while we went about doing other things. About 2:00, I laid down for a Mem. Day nap and was rudely awakened by my DH yelling, "Peg!" "We've got water in the basement!"

Turns out the drainpipe connected to the faucet for the "soaker" hose was broken (probably from freezing last winter) and the vast amount of water I left on for 3 hours poured into the guest room and out into the rec room, my DH's study/office, and two storage closets. About 1 and a half inches standing. Waiting for a cleanup guy to come now.

Try getting ANY body to come out on Memorial Day! I couldn't even get people to answer their phones! The guy who is coming is coming from Providence RI, an hour away.

So, interesting day.

Peace, Peg

i hope everyone is having a great weekend
no cook out today for us
we was up to 6am watching the weather
Kentucky was hit bad with tornado's and
major thunderstorms
at 3-4 am we was standing on the front porch them
wind was really strong and next thing we know 1/2 my
locus tree snapped in two
landed on-my 2 pawpaw trees and snowball bush
i am thankful it went the other way and not on the porch!
so i slept most of the day
then cooked a quick hamburger on The stove
we are still under a flood watch

Peg, OH NOOOOOOOooooooo! Boy, that'd ruin my day! Sure wish you luck with the cleanup crew, and hope your insurance covers something like that.

Donna, I'm sorry about your trees. Since we've lived here, we've lost three big beautiful trees in our back yard to various weather phenomena. I just hate that!

Oh wow, Donna and Peg...so sorry to hear of your misfortunes. We had multiple tornadoes in the northern part of our state 2 evenings ago with SOFTBALL size hail. DH's cousin had just repaired his car from the last hailstorm a month ago, and guess what...yep...he got pounded again! I think he is still in shock and disbelief...I know I would be.
I got a sewing project completed today, so I am VERY pleased Otherwise, we just kinda stayed close to home...no cookout here either.

Angry Re: Happy Memorial Day

Update:

Lost while the cleanup guy moved things around to take the carpet (wall to wall) up:
1 large table lamp
1 hand built model of the ship "Constitution" in a glass case
1 corner of a wooden bookshelf
2 decorator plates from China and from Denmark
1 large entertainment system (bridge fell off)

Severely damaged in the water: 100+ year old Navajo rug in my husband's family.

Had to completely remove ALL the carpet in 1900 sq ft space. We have junk all over the house upstairs to make room for taking out the carpet. Cleanup guy is hauling it away with him.

we're thinking of just moving.
Peace, Peg

Oh Peg - So sorry this happened to you. Hopefully they can do some repair on the rug.
Its awful with a flood. We had a washer hose explode 3 days before xmas (with 2 small childen at the time. Water was running out the front door when I got home and we had to live on a cement floor (ranch home) over Christmas. About the only spot in the house not water damaged was around the tree.

but these are 'things'. and you will recover. Just feeling awful for you right now.
