Unhappy Vet Campfire 6/19-6/25

OK, alll you vets, this is your genuine, for real, weekly thread. If you want to know what lead up to all this, catch the Vet Campfire 4/19-4/25 thread. Yup, sorry folks, I didn't find the right keys and sent us time traveling back a couple of months. Sheesh!

So now that we're somewhat established, and I'm blushing, I'll shuffle on out of here..........

Cute smilie, Sharron! What fun!

Aw, silly sad face is because I screwed up the thread dates first time around and probably confused everyone as right-brained as I am.

BC -- thanks for the compliment of the site. I hope I can get some more set up.

Teelbee, the home is located in a small community called Diana. It just outside Longview, Texas. Longview is about 130 miles east of Dallas and 60 miles west of Shreveport Louisana right on I-20. Yes, $250,000 will buy both land and a house in this area. Relative to lots of the country, we have one of the lowest costs of living.

It is a cool evening in June (or is it April?) and a good night for a campfire.

The weather was wonderful today and I was able to get a little tennis in, do a few ab exercises, shop for groceries, make some cauliflower casserol, watch some sports on TV, do laundry, clean the house, and then my son took me out for a nice dinner to Appleby's for father's day, (had the bleu cheese sirloin yum!)

BC I hope you are able to find the source of your feeling "off". And kudos to you for not accepting feeling less than tip top. Not feeling right is no fun. I like the camfire theme! Thanks for starting us off.

Judy the web page is really good! My reaction to the price is the same as Teelbee's Wow! Around here for that price you get a 3 bedroon 2 bath TOWNHOME!

I feel like I am virtually in exile. I haven't been going much of anywhere recently. I am trying to focus on what I need to do at home this summer with organizing. I did get some done last week, but as I go through boxes, it makes the space look worse for a while. Also, I know I suffer from "I can probably use this someday" (if I remember I have it and I can find it when I want it). So, even though I have a lot of stuff in the trash, I should have more in there!

I am trying to overcome wanting to eat in the evenings. It does help that my tempting foods are gone (no cereal, no milk, no bread, no bagels), so if I do eat, my choices are better. I started drinking coffe again (de-caf) in the hopes of answering whatever I am craving the the sweet taste of coffee. It helps a bit, but I'm not sure if that is the answer.
I hope all of you are doing well.

Here in beautiful Sarasota...$250,000 will buy ya a 2br 2ba, 1000 -1400 sq ft house in a just barely OK area. Housing values are WILD here. Makes your head spin. My partner says she couldnt afford to buy her own house back.LOL.

Oh, things are nuts here, too (SF Bay area)! You'd be lucky to find a small condo "in a barely OK area" for $250k. It's very hard on families, new comers, and service workers. I know people who commute 2.5 hours ~each~ way to get to work.

Prices have always been high here; but about 3 years ago, the dot.commers went into bidding frenzy mode to try to move some their money into real estate and homes. Though it slows down at times, it really hasn't abated yet.

Hi gang,

Wow, rainy! I don't know why I was surprised this morning, but I was. I've got quite a few irons in the fire this week, but everything seems to be going more slowly than I liked.

Ilse, I'm becoming a ruthless thrower-outer. I have very, very rarely regretting throwing something out, or passing it along to someone or some organization who could benefit from it. What I do have to watch is the tendency to continue to accumulate things in the first place.

I hope you'll find the decaf coffee satisfying. I know what it's like to want "something" and need something to fill that certain spot.

Teel, DH was offered a job in the SF area a some years ago. Even with a salary increase, we couldn't see any way we could afford to buy there, and this is coming from Chicago!

I look at the salaries for other locations in the US, and get really burned about how low they are here. (Texas teachers are ranked in the bottom 10 of all states). But, when you consider the cost of living, I guess things aren't so bad. Our C.O.L. is lower than in the metro areas --- as is our pay. I could move and make more, but I'm not sure I would come out ahead. Since my house is paid for, I'll probably be here until they haul me out on the stretcher.

Yes, the cost of living here is atrocious! Besides expensive real estate, gas is $2.39/gal. For some reason, we usually seem to have the highest priced gas in the country.

I grew up here - the area around San Jose was a sleepy little farming community. The county was called the "Valley of Heart's Delight" - world famous as the Prune Capital of the World - LOL! It was all orchards (cherries, apricots, walnuts, mostly), strawberries, and tomatoes. Then, came Lockheed.... followed by HP, Intel, AMD, and uncountable others - and it was world famous as Silicon Valley

Now it's all strip malls and high tech campus developments. Yeah, the salaries are high, but I'm not so sure about the standard of living (excepting the surviving dot.commers). There used to be lots of jokes circulating related to the irony of making $100k a year but not being able to find an apartment with affordable rent, much less a house to buy!

We do have rather nice weather, though.

Ok Deb, here's one for you........... and while you are it guys, remember my DD. She had an interview this morning and on her way out the guy said she would probably hear from them before the day was over. She didn't. Maybe it will happen early tomorrow morning. She has really worked hard finding a job. We all have out hopes up.
