| Hi! Got to thinking about this the other day, and thought it would be a fun post. What is your favorite "As Seen on TV" or Lillian Vernon/Harriet Carter catalog kitchen gadget, that on first glance, you'd think probably wouldn't work, but turns out to be one of your favorite gadgets? Mine are: MiracleThaw? - It claims that the metal it's made out of will speed along the thawing process. "Yeah, right." Is probably what most people think, but I love it! It's not instantaneous, by any means, but if you run your frozen meat under some water and then put it on the miracle thaw, you'll generally have thawed meat in about an hour. Microwave Egg Cooker - This I got out of a catalog, but now see that they're available at Walmart. It's plastic and shaped like a very large egg. Has a metal tray inside that holds 4 eggs. You add water and the eggs, put it in the microwave and in about 9 min, you have softboiled eggs. I love it because I have such a hard time making softboiled eggs that don't crack when I put them in the water. Also, I can make 4 hard boiled eggs in about 12 minutes. It's a handy little gadget. So, what's your favorite?

| Geez, where to start! I think my all-time favorite is my Showtime Rotisserie. I've had it probably 5 years, maybe more, and haven't worn it out yet, although I've certainly tried! It's just a workhorse and the results that come from it are fantastic! My recent WORST one is the Eggstractor - it worked on ONE hardboiled egg but I could never get it to work again, even DH finally threw his hands up in disgust and said, "RECYCLE BIN!" which is where it went! LOL! Char

| Fun thread, Mada! I have a "Makin Bacon" microwave cooking rack for bacon. I love it! Got it at Target in the As Seen On TV section. It was created by a young girl and it works! Char's right, my Showtime Rotiss is GREAT! The meat prepared in that thing is delish. I'm glad you mentioned the Eggstractor, Char, I was going to ask if anybody had used one. |

| Boy do I feel out of touch, I don't have any of the "as seen on TV" stuff unless you want to count my George Foreman grill. My house is about 40 years old and at that time women were just beginning to enter the work force in some numbers and I guess builders thought that they wouldn't be using the kitchen any more so they made them very small. That is the only thing I hate about this house, I have very little counter or cabnet space. Last edited by BettyR; 08-22-2004 at 11:50 PM. |

| My TV knife! It still after about 6 years chops lettuce and cabbage as nicely as it did brand new--it is NOT serrated either! I have a serrated bread knife by the same company whick is really great for homemade bread which I haven't made since going LC--used to use my breadmaker all the time, now never--or almost never anyway!

| Had to laugh, Mada! I have sworn off infomercials after being burned several times! But DH loves the George Foreman Grill (does that qualify?). We have the small and jumbo. Use them so much, we junked the gas grill outside which was just collecting rust. And April, I have an Oreck, too. That is sitting in the basement and should go in the trash. Nothing replaces my Electrolux, 'cept maybe that Miele which costs a gazillion dollars.

| Mada: I usually use the Turbocooker for cooking meat for the lc tacos (La Tiara) or lc soft tacos (mission). I also saute shrimp, and vegetables without too much oil. It's great because I'm so impatient, and can eat within minutes of walking in the house, before I rush off to dance class.

| Gee, I like my Oreck a lot! I got it about 8 years ago. It's the first vacuum I've ever had that I can handle easily and it sucks great. I also like how it goes easily from my hardwood floor to my carpets.

| I love my MAGIC BULLET - little blender. Really helps when making protein shakes and smooties. Yum. probably could do more with it, I'm just kitchen-challenged.

| Glad to hear the turbocooker worked! I doubt I will buy one, but my 10 yo DS and I love to watch the infomercial. What?? None of you out there bought the genuine, hand hammered wok? We have one but it is in the cellar gathering dust. Hubby got it several years ago while up watching late night tv alone. Obviously I don't let him do THAT anymore! LOL

| I love my rubber broom, I forget the technical As Seen on TV name of it, but it is basically a rubber broom. I use it for sweeping up all my hair on my white bathroom floor and my kitchen linoleum and also great for small upkeep on my burber style carpeting. I swear when I was 21, I would never have a favorite cleaning product, but at 26 I do love my rubber broom and I will debate anyone to the death that Viva paper towels are the best paper towels ever! |
