Exclamation SPICED NUTS/Great for Holidays too!

Just wanted to share my recipe with you because they are simply divine!!!

SPICED NUTS

1/2 cup sugar free syrup (I use DV Caramel or Vanilla)
2 Tbsp. Sesame Oil (or Olive Oil)
1 pound nuts of your choice
2 teaspoons Splenda
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Heat oil and sugar free syrup while stirring together in large skillet. Add nuts. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until most of the liquid is absorbed. Mix Splenda and spices together. Sprinkle over nuts and stir well, coating nuts evenly. Spread mixture into a foil lined cookie sheet pan. Bake at 300 for 10 to 40 minutes. (Baking time depends upon type of nuts used...I cooked SLICED almonds only 10 minutes but it took 25 minutes for pecan halves!) Just be careful not to burn them!! Check them every five minutes. THESE SMELL SOOOOO GOOD WHEN THEY ARE BAKING!! JUST LIKE CHRISTMAS!! Cool completely before indulging! You may divide these up into sandwich bags for quick snacks! Enjoy!

Mmmmm!! I have a spiced nuts recipe that is heavy on the sugar, so I'm glad to have this one to replace it with.

Oh, how timely! I just stocked up on nuts at Trader Joe's. I'll give this a try this weekend.

Thanks for sharing, Rhonda! That looks really good.
Oh, and FYI: I buy almonds at Sam's; about 8 bucks for a three-pound bag! I keep them in the freezer and toast them as needed for almond butter, snacks, etc.

Trina, I also bought my pecans at Sam's. I can't remember how much they were but I know it was alot cheaper than buying them at other stores. The pecans come in a 2 pound bag! I also buy most of my veggies at Sam's, like Broccoli, Romaine Lettuce, Mushrooms, Avocados, Tomatoes, Asparagus. I think it is cheaper also. You have ALOT more experience than me with this WOE. What do you think? I am always trying to save money!

Oh, yeah, Rhonda, I make a pilgrimage to Sam's every weekend to stock up on veggies, nuts, heavy cream, butter, frozen shrimp; all kinds of stuff. I try to not get really perishable stuff, since there is only two of us. I have thrown away rotten strawberries and yucky bagged salad that we just couldn't eat fast enough. But for the stuff listed above, you can't beat their prices.
I also get Fruit2o water there for 10 bucks for 24 bottles, and EAS lc shakes by the case. I don't recall how much the shakes were, but MUCH cheaper than anywhere else. I get some supplements, too.

Yes, thank God for Costco! I get my nuts there too. The pecans are about $4-$5 for the big bag. What a deal! And my family lives on the big family size bag of broccoli florets. So much better than messing with all the stocks and paying $1.50 a pound at the store when you throw away half of it!

As for cream and butter, I think the best bang for the buck is Trader Joe's. They have Plugra butter there for $3.49 a pound. That's CHEAP and it's better than the regular brands at the store IMO. For cream I use the Trader Joe's brand in the bottle with the pink lid. $2 a pint. You might be able to get slightly cheaper but I doubt you'll find better! This stuff is the bomb!

Marcie! you throw away the brocolli stalks? I love brocolli stocks! I peel them and slice 'em into fairly thin "rounds". Then they cook along with the rest of the brocolli - delicious!

I think the Costco bags of whole bell peppers are fantastic. I love to buy the 3-lb box of Philadelphia Cream Cheese, so it's always on hand. It lasts us a couple of months (kept well-wrapped in it's original box). I wish they sold bags of cauliflower!

I'm very interested to hear that you all like the Costco nuts. I haven't bought them in years as I used to find them to be quite stale. It sounds like they've corrected that problem. I'll ask Dave to pick up a bag of almonds on his next trip (he doesn't like me to go with him to Costco -- I slow him down too much and tend to spend more money, LOL!)
