I'd include a grating of fresh nutmeg in the sauce. Nutmeg makes cream sauces magical.

I've had several brands of alferdo sauce out of a jar and so far I haven't found any that tastes as good as fresh homemade alfredo does and it's so easy to make. This is the recipe that we use, very simple but very good. Alfredo Sauce Ingredients: 1 stick butter pint Heavy Cream ?-? C. Parmesan cheese (the real thing-not that stuff in the green can) 1 tsp. Garlic powder 2 Tbsp. Cream Cheese Preparation: In a saucepan combine butter, heavy cream, and cream cheese. Simmer this until all is melted, and mixed well. Add the Parmesan and Garlic powder. Simmer this for 15 ? 20 minutes on VERY low. Salt and pepper to taste.

The eggs do thicken it, and make it like Carbonara. I made an LC version of that and it was very good.
