Default Keto going out of business?

I read several posts by people who said that they had placed orders with Keto and were charged but never got the products.

I called, the number is 732-922-0009....when you get the recorded voice just punch in 6888...that is the extension for Arne Bey, the President and CEO..

He said they are trying to avoid bankruptcy. He was explaining that they had a great niche until the market was flooded with stuff from big companies.

I replied that cost may have had a lot to do with it too.
He didn't want to believe or here that from me, he said that making low carb protein products cost a lot more but that people didn't mind paying more if they tasted good.

I beg to differ, when the fruit spread was $5.00 a jar and other companies can put it out for $2.00 I'm sure it made a difference. As well as most low carb products are grossly over priced. He was convinced the taste of the product was all that mattered. Maybe that's why they are going out of business.

AdminNote: Betty, i added a "?" to your subject line, because while they are trying to "avoid bankruptcy" they are not yet (as far as I can tell) out of business and it sounds like they are trying to avoid that. But thanks for the post!

DH has been saying this for 2 years. I'm not surprised in the least.

Only the best products will survive and by "best" I mean the following...

- They must taste good and not have "strange" or "weird" textures
- They must be reasonably priced

Andrea,
Thanks, an oversite on my part.

I have to admit that I've never been a big user of pre-made low carb products so I really don't know how good or bad their products are. I prefer to make my own food from products that I can buy off the shelf at the grocery store or health food store. The only exception to this is in the past I've ordered artificial sweeteners.

I have a large family and I have to stay within a certain budget when shopping for groceries. I can't use up a large portion of that budget on low carb foods that only I would eat.

The main reason I wanted to post this article is that people are placing orders and being charged but never receiving their items. If this has happened to you, from what I've read it looks like the only way you will get your money back is to dispute the charges on you credit card. Most credit card companies are very quick to take care of these problems for you. If you paid from your checking account you will have to speak with your bank to find out if there's anything they can do to help you.

Marcie, I've just got to disagree with you here. It has been my experience that the less "weird" the texture, the more "normal" the taste, the more reasonably priced these products are, the higher they raise my blood sugar. I don't know how a proliferation of frankefoods helps the person trying to develop a healthy, low carb, lifestyle.

I agree with Dr. Fischer when he says:
Quote:
No one in the history of man has ever been able to lose weight eating anything like those foods
I truly credit my own weight loss to the fact that, during my weight loss years, the only "unreal" food I ever ate was an occasional atkins shake, in a pinch. No wraps, no bread, no chocolate bars, etc., etc., etc. Just regular food with low carb counts. I truly believe that many people have less than optimal results because they are eating these products, and because they're "approved" eating way too much of them and, in some cases, having them awaken cravings for "the real thing."

I know that I've been beating this drum for a long time, but I still think it's true.

I'll get off my soapbox.

Well, I'm inclined to agree with this more and more as time goes by. When I occasionally "go off the deep end", it's usually ~after~ eating something quasi-legal, like lc ice cream or lc tortillas.

As for the Keto products, I wasn't a big fan. The the price tags on lc specialty foods still leaves me reeling sometimes. Mostly, my lc staples are erythritol, Thicken/Thin, nut flours, and things of that ilk. Maybe I should swear off ice cream for the rest of the year.

I have several Keto products . . . used once. The pudding created cravings. The powdered milk was bought before Hood was available locally.

And Maggie, I have to agree with you 100%. I lose the best when I go "au natural!"

I don't use much in the way of packaged stuff. I simply meant that people aren't going to buy products (and make them part of their grocery bill every month) that taste funny and cost $5 for 2 oz. Know what I mean?

The jam thing is a perfect example. The Keto stuff was pretty good but it cost $6 a jar. At that price, I only would buy it very rarely to use in a special dish.

Smuckers, however, is making a very nice jam at under $3 a jar and I keep a few flavors on had all the time as they make excellent "instant sauce" for lc cheesecake and a terrific filling in grilled tortillas with whipped cream cheese. Also, the orange marm is great as a base for an Asian dipping sauce, etc.

In the past, I would really think twice "do I want to spend $3 on this sauce" whereas now, I just use it if I want to and don't think about it.

Forgive me if I'm rambling.

I'd say the lc jams and tortillas are about the only lc products I use and even then, it's once a week or so.

Unhappy Re: Keto going out of business?

It is over and from what I heard, they deserved it so. A friend of mine worked there and she told me the backstabbing that went on in that business by the owner...Their greed put them out of business mostly, but unfortunately many people got hurt, employees, health food stores and anyone else that came into contact with them. The man that actually created the company walked out almost a year ago and they were crumbling ever since..it was just a matter of time.

I did love the hot cereals and as a diabetic they helped me tremendously, so I buy them whenever I can. In fact I bought a can of Apple Cinnamon at a health food store on a clearance rack for 1.50, it was the only one left. I'll continue my search when shopping. RIP Keto

Jack Lelane (Sp?) says something that still rings in my ears, "If man makes it, don't eat it." And yes he is still alive and still obnoxious, and I hope he stays that way, the little runt.
