| No, they're different. Bran is the outer portion of the wheat kernel. It's high in fiber and low in net carbs. Germ is the endosperm of the kernel. 1/4 cup of wheat germ is 15 gms of carbs, minus 4 gms. of fiber, for a net of 11 gms. 1/4 cup of wheat bran is 9 gms of carbs minus 6 gms of fiber, for a net of 3. They won't "act" the same in most recipes either, due to the differences in their nature. HTH

| I think I'd wait until you found wheat bran. My instincts, such as they are, say it wouldn't turn out the same. But what I do know is that wheat germ has almost 4 times the calories as the bran. wheat germ also has quite a few more net carbs. 1/2 cup wheat bran, according to fitday, has 18.71 carb. and 12.41 fiber. Wheat germ has 28.02 carb. and 7.29 fiber. |

| Well they are quite different - bran is the skin or outer husk of the wheat seed, while wheat germ is the heart of the wheat seed. Depending on what you are making and if you don't mind slightly different results, perhaps you could do the sub. I can't say, but here's some info to help you make your decision. Bran is high fiber, rather flavorless, and it's lighter and fluffier than wheat germ. Wheat germ has a stronger wheat flavor, and it's higher in calories - it has greater amounts of fat, less carbs, and more protein. Wheat germ - (2 oz.= 1/2 cup ) 217 calories 6 g fat 28 g carb 7 g fiber 16.6 g protein Wheat Bran (2 oz = 1 cup) 122 total calories 2.5 g fat 36.5 g carb 24 g fiber 9 g protein

| A lot of low carb recipes call for soy flour - muffins, pancakes, LC pizza dough, etc. Some people like it and others do not. Most of my low carb cookbooks have recipes that use soy flour in baked goods; however, it's often mixed with another LC flour substitute like almond meal or flaxseed meel.
