We've had those steaks, but didn't pay for them. We get them each Christmas from one of DH's vendors. The steaks are pretty good, they come individually frozen on dry ice. We have had the filets and sirloins...This year we got game meats (elk, moose, etc)

Omaha steaks are ussually very very good quality. Just be careful of the stuffing ingredients in the sole--could be some sugar in there. Sounds like a good price for what you got, too!

A co-worker and I gave Omaha steaks as a Christmas gift to the lone guy in our dept. and he loved them. His only complaint was that in his opinion too much fat had been trimmed off the edges. Oh yeah, they came with those knives and "cutting board" (thin piece of plastic.)

Well let's see, if my math is correct, that works out to be about 5 pounds of meat total plus hot dogs and potatoes - for $60 - that means about $12 a pound, not including the dogs or taters....kinda pricey!

I've had their stuff before and thought it was OK but overpriced. JMHO!

you know i just thought of something... when speaking to my father... to buy a young cow you spend maby $50 dollars... feeding it for a year, you spend about $200. (if growing your own grain- in my case i could do that my father has dairy cows ) then butchering and processing .. is around 200 dollars for a complete cow..

that is around 450 (give or take ) for meat that you know what it has ate.. where it has been and whom cut it.. how fresh it is .. ect... hrmm
food for thought..

Gilley, I sure as heck wish I could do that! Although I'm not sure if I could take a steer that I petted and looked in the eye and have it butchered.... Well maybe I could. We have no place to raise it though.

We HAVE threatened to buy one of the 4H kid's steers at the Fair though. One of these years I AM gonna do that - gotta have plenty of freezer space first though!

I'm with Char on Omaha Steaks--good but overpriced. You can do just as well or better in a "gourmet" meat market for $12/pound (at least where I live).

Yep. If I'm gonna spend $12 a pound on beef (AND that included the hamburger, which of course is pretty outrageous at that price!) I'd just trot right up to Whole Foods and buy organic beef.

char on the plenty of freezer space you are so true my parents had a cow butcherd (its meat but its not farm raised beef its dairy cows tougher meat) we split the beef w/ them it filled their freezer and mine..!so plan on an empty freezer.. and possible chances of haveing empty section on your fridge's freezer.. and some neighbors in need! lol...

Gilley, my mother is my only neighbor, and she SHARES the freezer with me! LOL! No help there at all.

Maybe I better look into buying a deep freeze before buying that steer.....

I've actually had the 'Omaha Steak' rep in our house. They sell 'bulk' meat, meaning you get a ton of it - and then they tried to sell us a freezer to put it in!!!! It was fairly outrageous. The meat was pretty good - but I can get the same quality at my local grocery store.
