| I have just started Atkins -- again. I am reading a lot of tempting recipes..but please answer one question...I thought you could have no dairy during induction except for select cheese, etc? Can you use heavy cream in cooking? M.:jump: |

| Heavy cream is indeed allowed on Induction, but you have to use it in moderation. Here is a link to Atkins Induction's allowed foods list: http://atkins.com/Archive/2001/12/15-464579.html By the way, welcome to the site. You'll find a LOT of friendly and knowlegable people on these boards. I don't think I would have been able to stay on low-carb if it wasn't for the support I've received here. Not that it's hard, it's not, especially when you learn all the ways to make low-carb eating fit into your life. (ie: sugar free syrups have been a real treat. They're something I'd never heard of until I started reading this board.) I'm still learning about all the different sugar/flour substitutes. More importantly, there are talented cooks on these boards that help take the guesswork out of recipes, especially those with ingredients that I'd never heard of until I started low-carb eating. (ie: vital wheat gluten)

| The OLD program didn't allow dairy except certain items. The NEW program allows cream cheese, cream, etc. that weren't on there originally - so it depends on which book you have! I have used heavy cream in moderation since I started 2 years ago without repercussion - YMMV though! Char

| I started with the 1998 DANDR. Dairy was not a problem in that version - except for milk, which is high in lactose. Neither cream nor cheese was limited (and I took that literally Since you wish to follow the Atkins Nutritional Approach, I'd suggest that you get the book - Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution. It really will be your roadmap to your new way of eating. Meantime, we're here to ask for "directions" if you lose your way. Hope you'll make yourself at home.
