Default Quaker Q-smart bars rock!

Sometimes I find difficulty in LC due to the fact that there really aren't a lot of take and go options out there. I recently found Quaker Q-smart bars. they come in two flavors, peanut butter chocolate chip and cranberry almond. Both flavors are yummy. Both flavors contain 3 grams ( 9 total, minus 2g fiber and 4 sugar alcohols) of net carbs and 1g of sugar.

Britney, if the sugar alcohol is NOT erythritol (say, for instance, if it's maltitol) and these bars DON'T give you a laxative effect, you should count them as 7 gms.

In general, for those who don't metabolize sugar alcohols, they have a definite "ex-lax" reaction and are self-limiting. On the other hand, those of us who metabolize sugar alcohols almost the same as we do sugar, don't get digestive disturbances. That means we're using those sugar alcohols to their maximum.

Just a word of caution.

Maggie, I am not sure what you are trying to say. Even during induction I haven't had problems with things that contain sugar alcohols, and they haven't seemed to halt weight loss. I dunno everyone is different and suppose the alcohols effect everyone differently.

The other thing that concerned me with those bars was when I first picked them up at the market a couple months ago, the ingredients listing contained partially hydrogenated fats - so back on the shelf they went.

Many manufacturers are rethinking those fats these days though, so hopefully they have reformulated and gotten those nasty things OUT!

It is nice to have something quick to fall back on in a pinch.

BritFan -

The thing to remember about induction is that you can generally do LOTS of things wrong and still lose. The reason being because you are doing alot of things RIGHT that just a couple of "mistakes" don't really hinder the process much. It makes you wonder how much you COULD have lost had you NOT been eating the bars

But, as you progress, your body gets "used" to lcing and you get closer to goal and generally, most people find the weight loss slow even when they're doing very well. And if they then introduce bars, that's when they find themselves stalling.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, induction is NOT the place to judge how your body deals with things and how it reacts to various foods and situations. Only after doing this for a period of time (and yes, only after making myriad mistakes) will you truly begin to understand how YOUR body works and what works best for your body.

I like these bars, too. It's hard to find something quick to eat, and they are about the lowest sugar alcohol of the bars out there.

I found bars by Pure De-Lite for Low-Carb Dieters, and they are sweetened with erythrol. They taste pretty good and contain fewer calories than Atkins bars. I only see them at Walmart.

I love these bars also, and have had no problems with them whatso ever... they are so easy to grab when you're in a hurry and don't have time for lunch.
