| Is there a downside to eating a lot of mayonnaise? I bought a 32 oz tub of "Kraft MAYO - Real Mayonnaise," and have cought myself more than once dipping big spoon into and eating it straight. Tasty and a little bit satisfying. I am thinking of adding it to some recipes. INGEDIENTS: Soybeen Oil, water, eggs, vinagar, contains less than2 of egg yolks, lemon juice concentrate, salt, sugar, dried onions, dried garlic, paprika, natural flavor, calcium disodium EDTA - (To protect flavor). 1 Tablespoon MAYO = Total Fat 11g, Sat Fat 1.5g, Polyunsat 6g, Monounsat 2.5g, Transfat 0g, Cholest <5g, Sodium 75mg, Total Carb 0g, Fiber - Sugar - Protein all listed as Zero grams. |

| Some of us find that too much high fat foods will stall weightloss, especially if close to goal weight. But, if a person is active enough to burn all the calories and still lose, I don't see anything that wrong with it. But, it would be ever so much better for you if you would slather that spoonful of mayo in the trough of a celery stick or use it as a dip for cucumber slices or -yum!- over a cup of cooked veggies (brocolli florets would be my choice)! :fork:

| LOL - I've done that with swigs of cream! It does come down to the old saying, calories do count. Let's face it, no matter HOW low carb that spoonful of mayo is - it's gonna catch up with you. Sometimes we just crave a really high fat treat. Instead of plain mayo - how about mixing it up into a dip?? OR just use celery or other veggie to eat it off of instead of that spoon!

| Well, assuming you are losing fine and your body isn't overly sensitive to fat intake, I don't see any problem. I say eat all the fat your body wants (and can handle) as long as it doesn't bother your loss. HOWEVER The mayo I use is also made with soybean oil but I use it anyhow for these reasons... 1) I only use mayo once every 2-3 weeks 2) It's my favorite and I like the taste 3) I don't use mayo often enough to make my own or I would If I were actually going to be using it every day and eating spoonfuls, I would buy a more natural product like something from Hain (made with safflower oil) or I would make it myself. The later being the BEST option. But, since I rarely use mayo, I just stick with good ole Best Foods. Like so many issues dealing with food, the answer isn't always cut and dry for me. I make decisions based on LOTS of factors and practicality, price, convenience, etc. all play a role. HTH

| Hain's mayo with safflower oil is really good! I switched to it because of the soybean oil issue even though I don't use mayo all that often. DH does, though, and was a diehard Best fan until we tried the Hain's. Now he won't eat anything else. April Rose, I'm a cream swigger too.

| Stephen you will most likely find it in the natural foods seciton of your supermarket. If not there, check the Heatlh Food Store.

| You know, I used to use Hain in high school (20 years ago!) and now this whole conversation has me thinking I should switch back. I'm not even sure what made me start using BF again in the first place. Habit, I guess. I used Hain for about 2 years while following a special "health" program. I probably should have kept using it!

| I've never tried it - I've seen it, but I've always been a die-hard Best Foods girl - how does the taste compare? Char

| Good question, Char. I've always been a Best Foods girl too and then switched in high school for a short time. But, as soon as my "program" was over, I went back to BF. I honestly don't remember if it was taste or familiarity or what. You would think I woudwhat. I think I'm going to have to get some and try it. Since I don't use it much, I would be happy if it's "decent" as long as there are no funny flavors.

| Best Foods Mayo is called Hellman's on the east coast. I've never had a better mayonnaise. It's so liek homemade that it's not worth the effort to make regular mayo. Now Aioli is another matter. |

| Couldn't agree more, Rob! I think I've tried every mayo out there (except the Hain's) and I ALWAYS come back to Best Foods. The only exception used to be a little Miracle Whip in my heavenly hash recipe, but I ain't making THAT one these days! LOL! Char
