I recently bought some items from honeyvillegrains (polydextrose, corn bran, flax seeds and vital wheat gluten) and so far I'm impressed with the quality and service - I'd say it's worth a try to buy their coconut AS LONG AS it's unsweetened!

Before I would buy the HoneyVille coconut flakes I will try the Organic first so I have something to compare to. And I will call Honeyville and ask questions first. It also says thick shreds so additional blender or food processor work would be needed for a lot of recipies. But honeyville is on my list to purchase some stuff from.

Welcome, Rosey.

I don't know the answer to your question, since I'm not familiar with the brand. I just wanted you to know that I'm sure you'll get an answer. Some folks only check in once per day, and when someone who knows the answer logs on, I'm sure you'll get more information.

Meantime, please make yourself at home.

Hi folks—

I know I'm a total stranger around here, but I bought the 25-pound sack of coconut from Honeyville and I'm thrilled with it. FYI, it filled a 5-gallon drum and a LARGE countertop canister and I still had to make a couple batches of coconut cookies to use up the excess.

I got the "macaroon" cut. It's very fine, kind of looks like fake snow, not long shreds or big chips. It works perfectly for coconut cookies, the coconut cream cheese lemon mounds from Karen Barnaby's book, pie, shrimp, you name it.

Howdy to everybody from the other LC boards...

Hey Binki, welcome aboard!

I'm leaning towards buying some of that coconut. I like Honeyville products - have the Poly-D, the corn bran, and their VWG was VERY reasonably priced. Also bought whole flax seeds at a good price too.

I can't buy that quantity though, DH is not a big coconut fan so whatever it is I'll be eating it myself! Awww, what a shame....

If you lived in my neighborhood I'd just give ya some! I'm not sure how I'll use all this up before it goes bad. I wonder how long coconut lasts, anyhow...

I think if you keep it in a cool dark dry place, or freeze it, it should be good for a very long time!

Dang, wish I lived in your neighborhood!

FOR ALL THOSE WITH QUESTIONS RE: LOUANA COCONUT OIL(SOLD AT WAL-MART) ? I CALLED VENTURA FOODS (THE MAKER OF LOUANA)

The woman I spoke to informed me that it is NOT hydrogenated but it is refined, bleached and deodorized ? and it is not cold-pressed.

Hope this helps everyone.
