Default question re: cultured dairy products

my first question has to do with yogurt. i have been eating full fat yogurt for a while now with no problems. i have always bought stonyfield farms brand as i trust their products and respect their business practices, even though it's twice as expensive. but since my dh recently returned from his tour in iraq, his appetite has me buying upwards of six 32 oz. cartons/week. so i'm wondering about the store brand yogurt as it's half the price of s.f. it doesn't taste as tart as name brand stuff; does this mean it has less cultures? and if so, does this affect the amount of lactose the cultures "eat up", therefore upping the carb count?
my second question has to do with milk. oakhurst dairy has a line of regular milk with acidophilus and bifidum cultures added to it. it's called nutrish and it's geared towards people with lactose sensitivity. is it possible that this milk has the same carb properties as yogurt and is there any way to test this in an individual product? thanks to anyone with a little insight here. it would be great if the milk was okay to drink because it tastes just like regular milk.

sarah, I am a yogurt freak.... make your own.... I usually make 2 quarts at a time and the flavor and texture is unlike anything you can buy commercially even the stoney farms....I noticed once that stoney farms adds celulose or something like that to their yogurt....
anyway, if you want info on making yogurt, let me know, I have become quite
the afficiando and can get you started in the right direction.

I usually flavor it with strawberries, or other berries that are in season, and some splenda, however my favorite one is a little instant coffee disolved in a tiny bit of hot water and added to the yogurt and some splenda (dannon coffee flavor is my favorite )
oh, if I hadn't gotten around to making any and want some I usually get dannon plain yogurt ( I don't believe that my grocery has their own plain...)

I decided to count all the carbs in yogurt as stated on the lable; because my weight loss slowed to stall when I included it in my eating plan. I agree that Stonyfield is one of the best, but it's a big indulgence for me now.

Am I understanding correctly; that your DH is eating almost a quart of yogurt each day? Whew! I wonder if you could buy it in volume at at Costco, Sam's Club, or Cash and Carry?

I think the milk with acidophilus and bifidum cultures has the same amount of carbs as regular milk. I do not think those probiotics change the carb content of the milk. If the lactose was gone, I'm sure it would not taste the same as regular milk.
