Default questions about legal cooking ingredients

Hello! I'm still learning to cook low carb and I got a few questions. I found some flax baking mix and it seems to have no carbs, but I've never heard of it before. Is flax legal in a lc diet. I also know that dreamfields pasta is nice for lc cooking, but what about spelt pastas? I just can't seem to remember. Last question I promise. How do you know if your dinner, like a Smart Ones or South Beach meals, are too high in the carb depts. I mean, some say 17, some say 12, others say 30... but its a whole meal.. I'm just not sure. help anyone?

Flax is definitely allowed on all low carb plans. Dreamfields pasta is a YMMV product - try it and see how you feel afterward. I found myself ravenous when i had a full serving but a half serving had no effect - go figure. To see if a frozen low carb meal fits into your program subtract the fiber from the carb count. How many net carbs are you currently up to? If 25 then even 12 carbs is probably too many to blow at one meal. 30 is certainly too many! But you need to be the judge of this.

Mizkitty,
Spelt is a grain, and as such, contains carbs. Read the label and see how many carbs PER SERVING there are, and subtract the fiber grams. You may be able to eat spelt, but why? Unless you have an allergy to wheat, spelt won't save you anything in the carb department over wheat.
Rob is right about Dreamfield's...some people can eat it, many can't. You have to find out for yourself what works for you.
As far as frozen meals, learn to read labels. It will tell you how many grams of carbs PER SERVING there are. Just be aware that many prepared food companies try to pull a fast one and put the nutritionals for several servings on a package that looks like it would only serve one. Read every label; know your ingredients, too.
In the long run, you are much better off learning to cook real food. Check out the recipe database on this site for some great ideas, and good luck!
