Default whipped cream dispenser thingy

Looking to buy the 'you put in the cream and Splenda and go WHOOOOOOOOSH with the trigger and you have lc whipped cream' thingy

Brand suggestions??

Do you really just plop in the cream and Splenda or do you need to do more?

How far does it shoot??

Uh, scratch that last one. It was just an idea for some people here at work . . . ya know like LISTEN TO ME OR SUFFER THE SCOURGE OF MY WHIPPED CREAM GUN THINGY.

Anything special I should know about this thingy???

(don't look at me that way, "thingy" is a perfectly good word - right after dohickey!)

TIA

April Rose, I have a 1/2 liter ISI thingy. Another popular brand is Whip-it (no, thats not an S/M thingy, though it might have some interesting uses). I would say there are 2 things that you should consider. First is that unlike some things with whip creamers size does matter. They typically come in 3 non-commercial sizes with the largest being 1 quart or liter. The next smallest size is the 1 pint or 1/2 liter followed by the 1/2 pint size. The size you should get probably depends on how much you will use it. They are powered by nitrous oxide which you inject in the creamer when you fill it up. The creamer will typically hold its charge for 2 weeks. The 1/2 pint and 1/2 liter models typically require only 1 nitrous oxide canister to charge while the 1 liter size requires 2 canisters. The other thing you should probably look at is the head of the thingy. Those made out of metal tend to have a longer life than those made out of plastic, and probably hold the charge better. I have not gotten adventurous with mine yet so I have limited my use to just adding a little liquid splenda and a couple of tsp vanilla to 2 cups of heavy cream. By the way, the cost of nitrous oxide chargers can be all over the lot, so look around.

I make my whipped cream in my Magic Bullet. I just make what I need at the time. I was going to buy one of those canister/cartridge bottles before I got the bullet. Got to be careful not to whip too long. It goes back to liquid.

Henry,

Thank you SO much, you've given me much (LC) food for thought. A charge that only holds for 2 weeks gives me pause (granted the idea of whipping the stuff up myself give me hives, but that personal hang up will have to wait for another post!)

Good tip on the tip, I'll keep that in mind as I cruise the stores and web sites!!

I also have the isi but in the half pint size. It makes much more than a half pint of whipped cream. I love it. heck everybody loves it who has tried the result. I noticed today that Land O lakes has a sugar free canned whipped cream for sale. I saw it at Walmart while I was picking up a quart of heavy cream to use in my isi on Thanksgiving.

April - lol my speed too lately. I have to admit that I did buy a can despite my isi whip creamer. I may still bring it to T-day but I figure the ready made was something I wanted to try. The sweetener is sucralose and it does contain some milk product but it says 0 carbs per 2 tbs serving.

April, I got my Whip-it from this web-site and the pricing on the chargers is really decent. I got the all metal version and liked that they came in different colors (mine's red.)

http://www.whipeez.com/index.php

I usually empty my carton of heavy cream into a measuring cup, add splenda and vanilla to taste and then put it in the whipper. Yummy!

What Henry says! couldn't have said it better myself. I have the WhipIt (just liked the name better... ) and I got the one with the metal top because friends had the plastic tops go phooey on them. I got the pint sized because it holds a full carton of cream. I just use vanilla DaVinci's or vanilla extract and liquid Splenda - you can use any flavor DV you like though.

I used the Land O'Lakes for a while but it's up over $5 here for a stupid can of it so I bought this little thingie instead - we love it!

I got mine, and the subsequent chargers, on eBay.

And yeah, I'm pretty sure its projection capabilities could douse a nearby coworker....

Yes I forgot to mention the LOL whipped cream is expensive, at walmart i paid 3.48 a can. I could have bought a quart of whipping cream for 30 cents more. Still with one day to go until T-day it might be your best bet April.

I agree with Char on the projection capabilities. I was putting some on my hot breakfast cereal once and I inadvertently squeezed the trigger all the way. The whipped cream came out with such force that it was literally injected through the cereal to the bottom of the bowl where it pushed up the cereal. It was sort of like eating cereal stuffed with whipped cream then.

Vickie, it's a great kitchen gadget - the whipped cream keeps in it just fine for a couple weeks and you can dispense it at will!

Of course ANY kitchen gadget is a good one in MY book! LOL! Well, except that stupid eggstractor....
