Okay, I guess this should really be considered as "good news/bad news".. . still, FWIW:

Big-eyed tuna and blue and yellow-finned tuna are the most popular varieties used in sushi restaurants. Older and bigger fish are considered best suited for sushi but Saddler said it was not widely known that fish with longer lives carry more mercury than others.

Studies show seafood like shrimp and salmon with short life spans pose almost no risk of carrying mercury. (from: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11708946/)
I've been very cautious about eating salmon due to the mercury issue, but I feel okay about adding it back to my menu after reading this news article. :fork:

Thanks, Teel. As a fisherman, I'm was already pretty aware of this issue. The literature you get with your license (in NY some and in Canada, tons) makes it clear that the younger (smaller) the fish the safer to eat.

It's something that a person who doesn't fish might not know!

Maggie, I don't think I've ever caught anything bigger than a blue gill. Well, once a fisherman in the boat moored next to me threw me half a salmon (already cleaned!), which I caught with my bare hands. Does that count?

I guess it counts for something. A catch is a catch!

The biggest thing I ever caught was a pike, up in Georgian Bay. Well over 3 feet. I threw it back, since I was after muskies. Haven't gotten one yet. :( But I'm never up there at the right time of year - fall.

... and, I must add: I can't get the cartoon out of my head of you catching half a (cleaned) salmon from a fellow fisherman. What a trophy picture that must have made!
