| I don't really want to look stupid here, but what is the difference between flax seed, flax meat, and flax meal? And, if the recipe calls for say flax meal, can I substitute flax meat?

| My initial reaction was that "meat" was a typo for "meal". I have never heard of "flax meat", so I did a Google search for it without any success. I also searched for "flaxseed meat" and got one hit that was a typo for flaxseed meal in an egg substitution recipe. Flaxseed meal is simply ground flaxseed. You cannot substitute flaxseed for flaxseed meal. That would be like substituting corn for cornmeal. I have no idea what "flax meat" is.

| I'm with Henry, I think that must have been a typo! Flax seed is indigestible until it's ground. It passes right through your system whole otherwise and you don't get any of the benefit, aside from some fiber! LOL! So grind it first, or buy ground flaxmeal. Keep it refrigerated or frozen once ground though, as it will turn rancid pretty quickly at room temp. I grind 3 cups at a time, and store them in one of those Ziploc plastic containers in the freezer. Char
