| No, seriously :o This is definitely NOT one for the recipe books! As I mentioned the other day, I've been "out of it" cooking-wise for quite a while. I haven't used my gas BBQ grill for nearly a year!!! If you've read my books or talked with me at all, then you'll know that I normally use it year-round. I have a covered porch with plenty of ventilation. It is great... However, yesterday I wanted to cook up a bunch of food for the week. I'm really trying to get back on track! So I did hamburgers and hotdogs, then when they were done, I put a chicken on. Now, I know my grill runs hot, so I put the whole chicken on the top rack. Normally, when I do that, I just get one or two pieces that are slightly singed. Not last night. No sirreee.............. My son heard this strange noise, so I went and checked it. It was doing some flame-throwing in its normally hot area, so I moved all the chicken over to one side and went back inside. A few minutes later, we saw smoke. I went outside and attempted to open the cover of the BBQ. I say ATTEMPTED... The entire interior of the BBQ was engulfed in flames!!! They were even spouting out the back of it! I turned off the gas and left it for about an hour. When I checked it, one piece was still on fire!!!! That top rack also appears to have melted in some sense, it has a deep sag where all the chicken was :o A couple of the pieces weren't quite cooked all the way inside, though they were as black as coal on the outside, so I decided I might as well leave them there for a while in the heat. Besides, one was still on fire. Hey, I'm not going to wasted $8 worth of meat without at least TRYING to save it... So, the chicken was brought in about another hour later, and allowed to cool off. Later, I scraped the skins off (thankfully, I always cook with skins on!) and you wouldn't believe it -- the meat was actually very tender and juicy! Well, except for the one that the entire leg bone burned off! ![]() |

| ROFL Sharron! That may not be one for the "cook books" but it certainly is one for the board here! LOL - You probably should use a disclaimer with that! DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! Harrrrrrrrrr! |

What a great tale! One to tell your grandkids, that's for sure. The day grandma tried to burn down her porch making "chicken flambe". At least your chicken was still edible. Bet it tasted fantastic, too. |
