Default summertime beverages...

has anyone came up with any recipes for the summer for drinks? I use a lot of crystal light, and have been making up the lemonade one using less water then called for, then putting it, and strawberries in the blender with ice. Its great! I just wondered if anyone else has any really good ideas? I also just saw one someplace online that used peaches, milk, (carb countdown of course...lol) and splenda, and its put through the blender to make a peach milk shake...

Lately I like Rooibos (aka Red Bush) ice tea. It makes a lovely, caffine- and tannin- free beverage - very nice with a slice of lemon. Several companies are marketing it, including Azo, Celestial Seasonings, and a South African company called Kalahari. There is a hint of fruitiness to it.

I've made some lovely shakes by blending kefir, ice, and a little frozen fruit - sweetened as needed. Often, I add some whey protein powder to make it into a meal. The kefir is tangy, so I'm not sure it would go well with non-fruit flavors like chocolate or caramel. But it's great with lemon SF syrup or frozen peaches, strawberries, etc.

I buy Pappy's Sassafras tea concentrate, make about 3/4 of a pitcher full, slightly sweetened with FiberFit or liquid Splenda, and then add some diet V8 Splash. Very punch-like. I went to buy more tea concentrate, and was absolutely floored by their shipping costs, so it looks like I need to try to find it in a store. Anyway, the V8 Splash would probably be good with any kind of tea, regular, green, white, or herbal.

My current favorite thing is kefir, Fuzzy Navel whey protein powder, and enough water to make it the consistency you want. I use about 1/2 to 1 cup kefir, 1 scoop powder, and maybe 1/2 to 1 cup water. I use one of those little battery-operated frother type thingies to mix it. It reminds me of an Orange Julius!

If I want it colder and thicker and I have more time, I'll first shave some ice with my Hawaiian Ice snow cone machine, then blend THAT and the other stuff in my VitaMix.

I also like snow cones, which doesn't OFFICIALLY qualify as a beverage - but they're so much fun! We shave the ice then layer it with DaVinci SF syrups in a tall iced beer mug. I particularly am fond of Watermelon or Root Beer flavored snow cones.
