Default bacon question

Hi! I wasn't sure whether to post this in the newbie section or here, so forgive me if I picked the wrong one.

I'm on induction, and DANDR says to choose bacon without added sugar or nitrates. I should preface this by saying that I'm not eating a lot of bacon, but some of the induction legal recipes I've found do include it. Anyway, my problem is that I can't find any bacon that doesn't contain nitrates and sugar. I found one without nitrates and with sugar, but honestly it doesn't taste very good.

Does anyone know if such bacon is available?? I looked in a pretty large grocery store, but perhaps there's somewhere else I can look. If anyone has any advice or info on this, it would be really great. Thanks!

It's almost impossible to find bacon without nitrates AND sugar. What you need to look at is the *ingredient list* to see if there is any added sugar.
Steer clear of bacons, sausages, ham etc that are *maple cured* as they most always have added sugar from the maple syrup.
Most of us use good ole Oscar Meyer or Hormel, both of which are pretty mainstream.

Also, if you want to spend 1 carb for 3 slices, turkey bacon is also an option. Some folks like it, some don't. Dr Atkins of course endorsed full fat pork bacon as being OK.

I'm an Oscar Meyer fan, myself. (I never found a nitrate free bacon that looked or tasted good. LOL!)

It's reliable - from package to package - and I find it very tasty. I don't feel that I eat enough bacon to justify any undue fear of nitrates. Just my perspective.

Wal-Mart now carries a nitrate free bacon and hot dogs and the bacon has been good. My 3 yr old loves it. I haven't tried the hot dogs yet.
