| I'm in the process of placing an amazon.com order and am considering ordering erythritol. I currently use splenda in the packet form, liquid splenda and stevia plus as my sweeteners. I was going to order whey low, but read the glucose tests that Maggie et. al did and changed my mind on that! I'm curious - how do you use erythritol? Do you need to use it in combination with xylitol, or is it fine alone? And if you do combine, is it a 1:1 ratio? Also, what is the ratio of erythritol to sugar? Thanks for any help on this! (In case you're wondering, also in my order is a book on the chia seeds I've been researching, chia seeds and Sharron Long's cookbook on quick LC recipes Amazon addict signing off...

| Mada, I use erythritol on a 1:1 basis for sugar in recipes and it works fine although it is not quite as sweet as sugar. It is my granular sweetener of choice. If I want a little sweeter taste in a recipe where I am using erythritol, I will add some liquid splenda.

| Another Amazon addict here. I use the erythritol pretty much as Henry does. In most (note: not all) recipes that need the "structure" properties of sugar, the erythritol provides it. If I use equivalent amounts (sugar/erythritol) I tend to "spike" it with a couple of drops of sweetzfree (concentrated liquid splenda) to make up for the difference in sweetness. In other things, like cranberry sauce, I only add a tablespoon of erythritol for a whole recipe (for good luck) and depend on the liquid splenda for providing the sweetness. I've never tested myself with xylitol and, consequently, don't use it.

| Mada, I don't know if you have pets, but while xylitol is perfectly safe for humans, some dogs have died from ingesting small amounts of xylitol. I gave mine away and check for xylitol in other products--sugarless gum, toothpaste, mouthwash, etc, and look for alternatives.

| Thanks, BC... good to know - we do have 2 dogs. I'm not sure I'm going to order either of them, yet. I have several sweeteners that work well, and I don't use a lot of sweetener, so I may skip it. I was just wondering if they were better than what I have currently. I AM planning on ordering the chia seeds I talked about in the OWL forum, though, and the book that goes with 'em. They seem like a nice, natural way to fill up with fewer calories.
