Yep, I've tried them. I think the only difference is the skin and where they're grown. Aren't the smooth skin ones from California? Not sure, I don't have one on hand right now. But they're just as good as the darker bumpy skinned ones! Enjoy it!

It was larger than a hass avocado and the skin was actually a light green color. I cut it open yesterday and it was bad, so I did not get to try it.

Sorry about the spoiled avocado; I hope you took it back to the store. I prefer the Haas (california) avocado. It has about 50% more fat (per same size serving) than the florida avocado which i find kind of bland. On the plus side there are fewer calories in a florida avocado and their larger size means you won't go bankrupt making guacamole for a large gathering.

Yeah. As Rob said, the Florida type (smooth skinned) avocados are sort of watery compared to the Haas.

When you bought it was it still firm? I buy mine so they're still firm but give just a little to a light squeeze. The stem "button" is still attached. Although, all I seem to find are the dark bumpy ones, I would assume the same rules would apply to the smooth ones, yes? Over ripe avocados are just gross.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Barb is was on the softside when I bought it.

The good thing is that I bought a hass at the same time so I was still able to enjoy my guacomole.

I don't think I will be buying another smooth skin one!

OY! I have 2 dark, bumpy ones in the frig I have to use up, they're getting soft. I might make a veggie drink ala Gillian McKeith from "You Are What You Eat" on BBC America. Time to get out the juicer.
