Lori, it's one of those products that some really like and others don't care for it. My DS loves the Flax-o-Meal butter pecan and I like it pretty well. I also have the cinnamon spice and it's not bad.

There's a recipe floating around here somewhere so you could make it yourself, and then give it a try.

Either way, it's a 50-50 chance you'll like it. Don't expect the consistency to be like that of oatmeal or you absolutely will be disappointed. Instead, consider that you'll be able to have a LC hot cereal.

Maybe I can come up with that recipe. Anybody want to chime in?

Susan

I printed off a recipe from the old site, and believe it was posted by febe.

Almost Oatmeal or cream of wheat

1 C wheat bran
1C flaxseed meal
2-3 pkt sweetner

Mix together and keep in fridge.

To prepare use 1/2 C of this and add 3/4 C of water, or to desired thickness, and microwave for about 2 minutes. Stir and let set for a minute or so. Add spices or sf syrups of your preference.

Yields 4 servings

Flax-O-Meal is good, but so pricey. I, personally like the taste of the Keto Hot cereal better. It tastes more like Oatmeal to me. I don't always care for the texture of the Flax-O-Meal.
If you can find a box of the Carbsense Hot cereal, it's very much, almost identical to Flax-O-Meal, but a couple $$$ less. The big HF store I go to carries all three brands, multiple flavors of each.
Really though, I buy so little LC food. I have learned to make my own (cereal, muffins, breads, pies, pancakes), that I really don't like spending the money for "specialized LC foods".

My most recent concoction has been:

1 tablespoon oat bran
1 tablespoon flax meal
1 tablespoon almond or pecan meal
1 tablespoon soy protein isolate
Dash of cinnamon if desired

I mix these together in a bowl, add 2 tablespoons of DaVinci SF syrup (Danish Pastry is really nice, also love Huckleberry!) and a tablespoon of heavy cream and enough water (probably 1/2 cup) to get a good cooked consistency. I nuke it for a minute, stir, nuke again til bubbling and thick.

It's quite tasty and comes to about 6 grams ECC. I have it several times a week. Really helps with - ahem - REGULATION!!

BC has a good recipe for the flax hot cereal in bulk - maybe she won't mind posting it yet again!

Liked the butter pecan flavor but found that I liked it with more water than it called for and two packets of splenda. To add in somemore flavor I added a little butter, a tablespoon of liquid heavy whipping cream, and a dash of cinnamon.

Okay, I know it sounds like I've gone to a lot of trouble just to have 'oatmeal like' cereal but I used to eat oatmeal daily and this helps to keep me from craving the "good old days" of oatmeal

Each day is a new day, a new challange to be met and overcome.

I like the keto apple cinnamon hot cereal but if you don't want it really runny go with the lesser amount of water to mix it with!
I buy mine off of www.netrition.com and its not too pricey.

This is in the recipe database, but until it is available, this is how I make it: Mix equal parts (by WEIGHT, not volume) Flax meal, soy protein isolate and unprocessed coarse wheat bran. I generally get one pound bags/canisters of these items.

Store it in an airtight canister (like tupperware) in the fridge. Flax and flax meal should always be refrigerated, since they have oils which would go rancid over time, if not kept cool. In the morning put about 1/3 to 1/2 a cup into a bowl and add boiling water while stirring until it's the consistency you like.

Add cream, splenda and whatever strikes your fancy, nuts, fruit, davinci syrup, cocoa, etc.

a 1/2 cup serving (dry) has:

160 calories
6g fat
16g carb.
11.6g fiber
4.4g ECC
18g Protein

Hey! Now that one's full of stuff I KNOW I like the taste of (except Flax Meal - never had it).

Thanks!

Is flax meal relatively cheap, or is that another of those $15 shots in the dark?
