Hi Marzita,
Welcome to the cooking forum! It would be helpful to know what method your yogurt maker uses. Are there not instructions included?
OR are you asking for flavored yogurt recipes??
Blessings!

Thanks for asking Sharon. I don't know yet - haven't gotten it yet. I do know it's the kind w/the temperature gauge where the yogurt has to sit at a certain temperature for a certain amount of time. It's a Salton brand. Whatever advice you can offer would be great.
Ok, the quickie version:
Follow mfg directions. Use Dannon as your culture unless you have a Trader Joes nearby. Then use theirs. Those taste best IMHO.
Biggest: Don't move it till it is done! Don't even peek. experience....
have fun!
Blessings!

You can also usually get excellent starter cultures from the refrigerated section of you health food store.
Making yogurt isn't difficult, but I'll tell ya, --making kefir is much easier and has more probiotic activity!

... and, my own experience is that kefir has a MUCH lower impact on my blood sugars than yogurt does. Although I miss yogurt, I don't eat it, because (as far as my glucometer is concerned) I might as well be drinking milk - and drinking milk gives me an unacceptable rise in my blood glucose level.
Just my personal experience.
Oh, yeah. And kefir is really delicious!

Can you tell me what kefir is? Also include a recipe - especially if it can be made in the yogurt maker (BTW - I won this off an e-bay auction)
Thanks!
Maritza,
"Don't need no stinkin' machine to make kefir!" LOL!
That's what we mean by it being "unfussy." Rather than try to give you a lenghty explanation, I'll just direct you to the "kefir king's" site.
Dom's Kefir Site
Here, you can learn as much or as little as you desire about one of my favorite foods.
Enjoy the trip!

Maggie,
COuld you tell me where to obtain kefir grains.
Thanks,
Donna
Hi, Donna!
Sure. If you go to the Caveman's Forum on this site, there's a stickie topic on those who have kefir grains to share.
(Or use this link Kefir sharing thread )
Best bet is to get them from a person who lives in your general region of the country (since the postage is likely to be a bit less.)
HTH!

... And looking back, I just noticed that you're in NY State, too. So, if you want me to send you some grains, just email - or private thread - me with your address and I'll get some on their way.

Thanks for all the great info Maggie. I went in and read all about kefir and am excited to get going w/it.
BTW - I'm in Houston, Texas. WISH I was in NY State right now - NYC is my favorite place in the whole world!
I did find someone who had kefir grains in Houston but he hasn't responded back to me yet. I even asked my local health food store if they sold them and she told me no. Can you send me your private e-mail? I want to ask you about your LCWOF but not on this public forum.
Thanks so much!
Maritza
I emailed you, Maritza.
