Oh now I'm even more confused. I am going to buy some from Netrition but cana't decide. I have to practice some self control too. Aye yi-yi. My local Cost Plus carries Torani syrups but can't seem to keep the ones I like in stock. And they won't special order any for me. (Maybe I should seek out the manager, LOL)

But I just can't decide..........what to do, what to do. I would actually like to have them ALL!!!

Hey Barb, I decided to get them all, just work on it a couple at a time Since Netrition's shipping is a pretty good bargain for the heavy bottles, I usually order 1-2 when I'm ordering something else there (plus the pumps, of course). I watch for them elsewhere, too, but have had only limited luck finding them.

I broke down and bought the Butter Rum and the Raspberry. I have 3 questions.

    1) Char, how do you thicken the syrups?

2)Does DV taste like the Atkins syrups?

3)Are DV & Atkins made of the same thing ie Splenda?
I have the hazelnut syrup from Atkins and it takes a lot to make something sweet. Also the more you add, the more it tastes like alcohol. Kind of like vanilla extract. If you add to much.

    Hi Jen,

I thicken the syrups with Thicken Thin Not/Starch - about 1/2 teaspoon to 1/2 cup syrup will make it the proper consistency to pour over pancakes. A little more thickener will make it a nice cheesecake topper!

I whisk the TTN/S into the syrup, then nuke and stir til thickened.

You could probably use guar or xanthan gums too, I understand they don't blend in as easily though.

As for the Atkins/DV comparison, I don't have an answer for you there - but I've never noticed an "alcohol" aftertaste from DV syrups.

They ARE both made with Splenda, that much I do know!

Hands down, the Davinci and Torani syrups are far superior to the Atkins syrups. I went to Cost Plus to buy some more Torani syrups today and their power went out. Aye-yi-yi. The syrups are way back in the darkest part of the store. Makes ya think you should ALWAYS carry a flashlight with you. I was able to purchase some, the register WAS working. What a nightmare. But I got my syrups AND coconut milk. WOOOHOOO!!!!

For some reason I had a sweet tooth this morning, so I put the DV German chocolate cake and a little cream in my Flax-O-Meal. WOW! Was that ever g-o-o-d!

I looked at the levels in my bottles to see which were my "big 3" and realized that while I use the most hazelnut, because I put it in my coffee just about every day, the most "all around" flavor I have is vanilla. It's because I use that kind of the way one uses vanilla in baking--to help blend/balance/accentuate other flavors. Even in soft drinks, I often put a few squirts of the "main" flavor and then some vanilla to round it out.

Aderyn do you use club soda for your drinks that you make??

Char I narrowed down to...um...er....um..... I havent decided just yet! I keep changing my mind. I would love to buy 16 let me tell ya!! Do you make sodas out of yours also Char? Someone here told me that you can make Itallian sodas out of them?? I am looking for a low carb sweet drink insted of eating something at times.

Jen the raspberry sounds sooooo delish!

Is there any difference between the torani and the Davincis???

    Blessings,

    Carol

Carol, we've been using them for custom sodas for about 3 years now! Maybe longer!!

I use seltzer water in 12 oz. cans - no sodium. I get mine at Safeway, their store brand, usually on sale for CHEAP!

If you want to make a cream soda, just add a splash of heavy cream. REALLY good with the RootBeer or Orange Davinci - just like a RootBeer float, or Creamsicle, respectively!

My other favorite combo is Creme de Menthe and Chocolate together, with the seltzer - tastes like Peppermint Patty.

Hope I haven't further confused the issue!

The Torani's are $5.99 per bottle, alot cheaper than DaVinci. AND I have a source for the Torani locally. I don't know if they have a website or not, I haven't check it out........hmmmmm. Guess I need to do some research.

The syrup in Seltzer water is D-LISH!!!!

Barb, I don't know if you're a big fan of mango, but our Cost Plus carries SF mango Torani. It's soooooooooooooo yummy! It really tastes like mango, not fake fruit. I don't prefer one brand of SF syrup over the other. I guess I'm just a SF syrup ho'. LOL!

    Cheers!
