| I think we were discussing Whey Low on here a while back. A friend of mine whose husband is diabetic just got some to try. She made my favorite low carb brownie recipe using it and then had her husband do blood sugar checks. Here were his results for anyone who is interested: The recipe used 1 cup of Whey Low. S. had one brownie -- a ninth of an 8" pan. Starting blood sugar*: 110 30 min after eating: 115 60 min after eating: 109 90 min after eating: 110 So it's not quite like eating nothing, but it's close! *About 2 hours after lunch, before eating the brownie. I was very excited to hear the results as I think it's one of the best sugar replacements I've tried. It's a bit pricey, but for me it's worth it. -Mollie Slow and Steady Wins the Race - Aesop |

| That's interesting, Mollie. We have a whole thread on testing artificial sweeteners and our testers had a very different result. Blood sugar went up like a rocket. Of course, we're testing sweeteners alone, with no other ingredients, and in the same amount as one would take with a regular glucose tolerance test. Some of our testers are diabetic or pre-diabetic and some are not. None are on any medications. Does your friend's DH take any medications at all for his diabetes? If you'd like to check out the thread, which has information on a number of sweeteners (growing, as we all have a chance to do our self-testing), you can find it here. | Mollie I'll be glad to send you my bag of whey low. That stuff spiked me through the roof! Obviously it works differently on different bodies though, as your experiment proves. Yes, I am curious too, as to what type, if any, meds your friend's DH takes (and what times of day) Thank you for sharing those results! Very interesting. "Do, or do not. | I don't know if S. is on meds or not. Weird that there were such different reactions. Maybe it has to do with the large amount of fat in the brownie recipe as fat slows the body's processing of carbs. *shrug* I believe that they tested the brownies mid-afternoon 2 to 3 hours after lunch. -Mollie Slow and Steady Wins the Race - Aesop |

| Also the time of day I suppose affects the test. I know when I was diabetic there were certain things that I was not allowed to eat first thing in the morning that I was able to eat later in the day. So I'm sure S. doing his tests in the afternoon helps his readings. -Mollie Slow and Steady Wins the Race - Aesop |
