"Low Carb Cooking" at Low Carb Diet Support: "okay i have seen Kefir mentiond time and time agin... and today i was in the grocrie store just looking around... "what is kefir" i had never heard of it befor i dont even know ...."

okay i have seen Kefir mentiond time and time agin... and today i was in the grocrie store just looking around... "what is kefir" i had never heard of it befor i dont even know where to look for it..
im guessing its some kind of cheese... if so describe it to me..
thanks... just trying to find new things to add to my tastebuds

Kefir is a cultured milk product that is not as thick as yogurt, but has a much wider variety of organisms in it.

Well im not a big sour cream fan. and heck i have yet to try Brie cheese. i think i will take that step first... but then agin isnt softer cheeses "not as good" for us?

have been battleing some neausea (sp) recently (not sure why- iguess time to buy another pg tst) and thinking of something thinner than yougart tasteing like sour cream... didnt tickle my fantsy but like you said.. some people like it...

i was at the store today looked threw and threw the dairy section could not find Kefir anywhere.
I was going to ask the dairy person but im wondering if its more of a western thing ? clue me in..?

I'm in rural NY and I've seen it, but never in a grocery store, only health food stores.

HFS is the only place I've seen it and not all of them carry it. But, I bet your local HFS would order it if you asked.
