| I am new to LC, I have been doing SB for two months and have lost 12 lbs. I know this is the way to eat for life, so now I want to venture into more cooking and baking. Any suggestions on where to start? I bought a package of whole wheat pastry flour, which the label says can be substituted 1-to-1 for all-purpose flour, and I know Splenda can be substituted for white sugar. What about brown sugar? Also, any tips for converting traditional recipes, especially baking, to make them LC? I have read alot of the posts on this forum, but I am not familiar with alot of the products. Thanks for any and all help! |

| well this can be rather expencive.. but #1 sugestion would be to buy a rather nice cook book LC... (sharron's cookbook is great!!! you would have to accomidate some recpies in her book to be appropreate (sp) for the SB diet.. but her book is wonderfull.) #2 dont think ohh i ahve the book im going to go home and start makeing stuff.. read threw it.. there are alot of items you will probly have to purchase.. and they are not all inexpencive.. you may want to spread out your purchases some what.. i bought the cook book on a saturday and a few days later went to start shopping. you may want to shop around for prices and look online.. there have recently been some wonderfull posts about where you can get some items that are hard to find.. #3 do what i do.. be open minded and try your own swing at things.. just get the general idea on ways to sub things for others and have a go at it... #4 post your wonderfull out turns and your wonderfull flops ... i have done that and if you tell people what you were trying to do.. or what you used... you would be surprised the people whom might come up w/ a FIX for you #5 enjoy you wonderfull out turns.. and enjoy your wonderfull self 01/02/04-248 01/23/04-243 02/12/04-226 02/18/04-221 |

| Hi, Tammy. We have a recipe database (the link is at the top of this page) and there are many lc recipe data bases on the web if you search for "low carb recipes." However, I don't think you'll find many calling for wheat flour of any kind. Certainly whole wheat is better than white since the fiber content is higher, but at 72 net carbs per cup, most of us don't consider whole wheat flour an lc item. On the other hand, I'm not terribly familiar with what the South Beach diet categorizes as low carb. So maybe this is a "legal" food for you. HTH!
