I love to have taco salad on occasion. I make it using ground turkey with some seasonings over a bed of mixed lettuce with green onions, shredded cheese, etc.. but I always used the western dressing.

Has anyone found a good substitute or recipe?

Hi Marg!

I don't know what "Western Dressing" is. Could you describe it?

I always use sour cream and salsa as my dressing on taco salad

Oh, I see.

I have a french dressing recipe in my book, if that helps...???

I'd be happy to share it if you don't have the book. Just email me.

I'v been eyeballing your French dressing recipe Sharron. It might just work for what we want.(I too, miss my Catalina dressing on my taco salad). In pre LC days, I mixed equal amounts of Catalina and Pace Picante for a Southwestern type dressing. I may make a half batch and see how close we get.
Thanks,
Shelley

"Annie's Natural" brand French dressing is very close to Catalina dressing. I tried it just recently and really liked it.

Aderyn,
Thanks for the heads up on Anne's natural. I've tried some of them before, but not the French. Walden's Farm french is NOT very tasty, IMO, but for the price I paid for it, I have been trying to use it even though my taste buds revolt everytime...LOL.

Sharron,
Which cookbook is it in? I need to order your cookbooks. In the meantime, if you would mail me the recipe I'd appreciate it.

Hi guys,
I just whirled up a batch of Sharron's French dressing, and I can tell you, it is VERY close, IMO to the tangy, sweet, tomato-ey taste of Catalina, or the Western dressing. I think it will only get better overnight once the flavors have had a chance to blend better.
Just a FYI...and thanks Sharron...ya scored again, gal
