Taco Seasoning

This is a low-carb clone for the stuff you buy in 1-ounce packets from Lawry. Just mix the ingredients together in a small bowl, or coffee grinder (since I gave up caffeine, I converted mine to a spice grinder) and add it to a pound of ground beef, along with some water and let it simmer. It tastes very similar to the original and might be cheaper too.

1 teaspoon ThickenThin not/Starch
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
3/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon minced onion
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon Splenda
1/8 teaspoon ground oregano

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl or coffee grinder. Brown 1 pound of ground beef and drain the fat. Add the spices along with 2/3 cup of water and mix completely. Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 7-10 minutes. Perfect for taco salads or in a low-carb wrap.

Enjoy,
Jack

Jack, this looks great. I really need a good taco seasoning, I've been using a national brand, but it has a few ingredients I really don't want.

I would put the cumino at the top of the list of ingredients. In both taco seasoning and chile seasoning, I use both roasted whole cumino seed and ground cumino. Maybe it's a TexMex thing.

Wanted to add my thanks, too. I've been thinking about asking for something like this. Thanks for reading my mind!

Is there something they put in the packaged seasoning that I should look out for?
