Does anyone use the little packet of spices in the corned beef bag when cooking their corned beef?
Anyone have a special way to prepare their beef?

I plan on putting the whole thing in the crockpot and let it cook all day... and add cabbage about half way through.

Anyone else go ideas?

Kay, I'm sorry, I didn't notice your question. Use the spices if you want the traditional "corned beef" flavor. You can prepare brisket without making it corned beef.

I'm including the link to a recent brisket discussion. Hopefully, you'll get some more ideas. Let us know how your beef turns out!

I do use the packet. I put the corned beef (I prefer the corned rounds) into the crockpot, sprinkle the packet of spices over it, and pour on a low-carb beer, add a sliced onion for flavor, and let it go all day.

I steam the cabbage separately though. Just our preference!

Yes, I always use the packet of pickling spice when I simmar my cb... sometimes the ones I buy come with it already on the cb from the brinning process.

I also have some some of the spice mix at home. It can be found at your local store and I add a little more for extra flavor.

You might also want to check the "corned beef" topic here in the cooking section... about 7 other people wrote in how they cook it.
