| I saw stevia at the grocery store today for the first time. It came in two forms, powdered in packets and liquid. If a recipe just says "stevia," which do you use?

| Wow, that's unusual. Usually, the recipes on this site use the powdered form. There are also different types of Stevia but I'm not the expert on that. If Sharron sees this topic I'm sure she'll chime in, she knows about the differences.

| Our Kroger carries the liquid Stevia & the powder in the little packets too. I don't remember seeing it in any of the other grocery stores near me. |

| Check the ingredients and make sure there are no additives like lactose in the Stevia. I buy the Sweetleaf (from Wisdom Herbs) Stevia Plus as recommended by the author of the Fat Flush books. I had bought Stevia from Trader Joe's and it has the lactose added.

| Pianomom, this was at a Kroger also. I'll have to check the ingredients to see about the lactose. I don't remember the brand. Thanks for the info.

| Piano, IMO and several other authors, the SteviaPlus by Wisdom Herbs is the best on the market. Not only does it have the benefits of stevia, but their carrier is FOS -- a healthy dietary fiber that is reported to stabilize blood sugar levels. In fact, my doc had me taking it as a supplement for a while when I was having troubles with low blood sugars during a time of stress. Packets of that brand measure just like the bottle do. |

| Sharron, I got my packets from Wisdom but the liquid form Kroger. That's good to hear about the low blood sugar since I'm hypoglycemic. |

| I get my stevia online for really cheap, less than $4 bottle, at vitaglo.com. I find the glyerite to taste much better than the liquid that is alcohol based. The powder doesn't seem to dissolve well and tastes a little bitter, but is more portable. does any have a good cook book that is both locarb and stevia, inulin, etc based? Happily, splenda is more common in products as an alternative to the nasty aspartame, but i still don't like the way it makes me feel. Still looking for more stevia options. That's great kroger is selling stevia! which part of the country is that? they aren't selling it in north carolina krogers. |
