| Okay, we bought a half pig from the butcher we got our beef from. I have about 9 or 10 packages of pork steaks. What do I do with them? Also, I have pork shoulder roast. All the recipes I can find are for pork tenderloin roast. What do I do with my shoulder roast? Any and all suggestions (but especially crockpot ideas) will be greatly appreciated. :fork:

| Hi DebbyH, I usually just pan broil my pork steaks...haven't bought any in ages, though. Season them with some season salt and pepper, place in heavy skillet with lid on med-high heat. You may have to pour off the liquid after about 10 minutes or so. Then continue to cook them til done...about 20 minutes or so, depending on thickness. Turn the heat up and *brown* them on both sides....yummers! Also if there is some pork drippings left in the skillet, add 1 cup of cold, strong coffee, and bring to a boil, scrapping the krispy meat tidbits off the skillet. Mom used to call that "blackbottom" gravy. It's very tasty to dip your meat into!

| The pork shoulder makes very good ground pork. If I need ground pork for my meatloaf I always grind the shoulder myself. But pork shoulder is great just seasoned and roasted until well done. The leftovers can be used as you would roast beef, in casserole type dishes or fajitas etc. |

| You might look under the "thick pork chop" thread, several ideas there and they would work for most pork. Renee |

| Another good recipe (depends on where you are on the strictness of lc) is brown both sides of steaks then throw in a can of cream soup(I like cream of mushroom) and 1/2 a can of water cover and simmer on low until done. You really don't get alot of extra carb because only a bit of the gravy is on the meat but it is very flavorfull and cut with a fork tender. My kids put the gravy over brocolli and cauliflower also.

| I broil pork steaks just like beef steaks, with grill seasoning or whatever seasoning I prefer. They're awesome!

| This is one of my favorite ways to cook pork steaks. There are six of us and three are men. My husband and two teenage boys, they usually eat 2 steaks each so I'm actually cooking 9 steaks but the only thing I add to this recipe is the extra meat. Preheat oven to 350? Heat some oil in a pan over high heat until it is very hot. Brown 6 seasoned steaks very quickly over high heat and place them in a foil cover baking pan. In the same pan saute an onion and about a pound of sliced mushrooms until they are limp, pour about 1/2 cup of heavy cream over the onions and mushrooms and cook over medium low heat until the cream starts to thicken. Pour the onion mixture over the steaks, cover them and bake them in a 350? oven for about 20 minutes for 1/2 inch thick steaks. Longer if the steaks are ticker than that. 1 pound mushrooms 18.5 1 medium onion 9.5 6 pork steaks 0 1/2 cup heavy cream 4 Total 32 carbs / divided by 6 = 5.33 carbs per serving |

| I'd take that pork shoulder roast and rub it down with a barbeque rub, and put it in the smoker at a temperature of about 225-250 degrees for about 10 hours or so, until the internal temperature of the meat comes up to about 200-225. Oh man, that is some good eating! |

| The best way we fix pork steaks is to grill them on charcoal or gas grill. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder to taste. It takes about an hour but they are truly worth it. Serve with "potato"salad (cauliflower, turnips or rutabaga) and a big salad. A favorite dish. Donna J |

| A quick and easy recipe to use the steaks in is to bake them covered with butter, soy sauce and brown sugar twin till tender.
