Well, the only reason I would buy it would be to taste it before asking one of us kefir heads for some babies to brew your own :ivyhead:

If you like yogurt and/or buttermilk, you'll love kefir!

Oh, and if you do, only get plain. Flavor it yourself. The other will be loaded with sugar...

If you are getting real kefir, be sure to shake it like crazy before pouring it out. It makes it smoother and fizzier.

On the bottle it says "Keifer Milk" I thought about going in and reading the ingrediant lable to see waht im getting my hands on..
I was also curious
about the carb count on them is it like some home made yogurts where you dont get the actualy carbs it says due to them being broken down?
I'm hopeing to go to store tommrow and check it out agin...
i realy seen alot of things i liked in the section they have all kinds of things im realy proud of the grocrie store they have came along way... they have an all organic isle a isle w/ mostly LC pastas and dressings ect.. but they even have alot of the ingrediants i couldnt find befor they have wheat germ all kinds of almond flour soy flour soy protein ect.. i was realy knocked over at the amount of things they had..

They'll probably go with the carb count of whole milk, just as yogurt labels do. For what it's worth, plain whole milk yogurt does the same thing that plain whole milk does to my blood sugar - jacks it up. However, kefir does not cause quite the same rise. I suspect that more of the lactose is converted to lactic acid with kefir. ... just a theory.

However, there's nothing theoretical about the fact that I LOVE kefir!

No, gilley, they need the milk sugars to feed. You can ocassionally do a batch in cream (oh, baby ) but they need milk and mine seem to do best in whole milk...

In fact, I'm brewing mine in raw, organic milk, oh yum

I've recently discovered store-bought kefir and really like it. Unfortunately, so does one of my cats. I've caught him lapping it out of my glass more than once.

Gilley, I don't always find it that fizzy but I imagine that the homegrown stuff is. I find the texture to be slightly less thick than yogurt but much more so than buttermilk.

Yup, right on about the thickness, and I do brew my own. The only commercial brand I ever bought was Helios (I think that's how it was spelled - was a long time ago when I was trying it out to see if I wanted grains) and it was pretty fizzy. Since none of the commercial product is actually brewed from grains, I imagine there is a variation from brand to brand depending on what sort of microbial mix they choose.
