Question Re: Counting Carbs and Calories

I'm anxious to hear everyones' opinion: have you all noticed that after a day or two of high carb eating, it's hard to get back into the LC groove? It's Monday, and even though my mind is set on making this a good week, I find myself craving more food, both high and low carb. Just food in general. It's like a switch was turned on, and it usually takes me a day or two to get over it.
I wondered if anyone else has that problem.

Yep....high carbs can definitely cause you to crave; even if your higher carbs were LC foods, like fruit, for instance, or at least that's true for me. I've also noticed when I eat my alloted 1 oz of almonds(24 of those little puppies ) all at once, I want more. But if I spread them out, say eat 12, then later eat 6, then even later, 6 more, I do better. Is that not weird? Of course, some of that for me could be snacking out of habit or boredom. That is the little gremlin I'm trying to get rid of at this time, is my after dinner snack attacks...LOL.
Just my $.02 worth

The more carbs I have the more i have to fight to get over the cravings. So I try and stick to low carb options but they can add up quickly if I'm in a grazing mood. My downfall is get togethers where plates of food are laid out in front of me. Like football sunday get togethers at my sister's which I've already told my Football buddies I will Not be attending this year. Well maybe the playoffs and the Superbowl. ESpecially if the Panthers are in it!

Sunday = another 3000 calorie day and 60 g carbs. bad
monday = 1800 calories and 50 g carbs. Much better but I still want to get lower today and tomorrow to make up for Sunday.

Maybe the solution (for me) is to eat more times a day. Yesterday I had breakfast then a slice of cheese before my walk, then a salad with half an avocado for a snack right after the walk. Had a steak sandwich on low carb bread at 2:00 and taco salad for dinner. Low carb Panera bread co. Low carb bagel (asiago cheese) as a snack about 7:15. The bagel was what put me over the top on carbs (11 net).

Good for you Shelley - 2.5 pounds is great. Keep up the good work and I bet you see another loss next week. (I love hardwood floors - how exciting )

I've been lazy about using fitday - skipped a couple of days. That's too bad because the whole point was to see if I lost while eating more veggie/fruit carbs.

Shelley, did you say you have fitday pc? What do you think? One of my problems with fitday is that the "recent foods" list is too short, so I have to keep going back to the catalog-like listings. Too much work for lazy me.

For breakfast I had leftover clam sauce and zucchini. Need to estimate how much I ate of each ingredient. I didn't feel like separating the components and measuring them.

Let's all keep keeping on,

Alice

Hi Alice,
Yes I got fitday pc and I love it. It's much faster and once you enter your *custom* foods, it's a breeze to use. I don't know if the online version had an activity log but the pc version does, and some other neat features. I am very pleased with it. I purchased the download and the cd so I could have it if my computer ever did anything weird...like crash or something...LOL

Hello all! Whew - the last few days have been busy! I haven't had a chance to check in with the group. I am holding steady right now. That is my pattern of weight loss - I will lose then maintain then see another drop. The only thing I have gotten really bad about is drinking my water. On the weekends, I tend to grab a diet pop or sugar free beverage instead of water. I am back at drinking tons of water this week and I hope to see a big drop in a few more days.

I have one challenge ahead of me - the Indiana State Fair. Ahhhhh - fair food!!!! We are going on Thursday and I am not sure how I will resist funnel cakes and elephant ears. The one plus is we will be doing tons of walking! There are lots of chicken, beef and pork places to eat. I may just call it a free day (hey it only comes once a year!) and just eat some of the things I only get at the fair. Hopefully, I will be able to share with the family so I can keep my portions under control.

Hey, Glory, have fun at the fair. I don't have any advice on eating - sounds like you've thought it through really well. Sounds like fun.

Our local fair starts tomorrow here and runs for 10 days. I think I will have to go and eat a little off program on one day. (love those blooming onions!!)

Did a little *sneak peek* weight this morning, and was down another pound. We'll see if it sticks...heh. Did good on water today and had about 4-5 more carbs than I had planned, but otherwise I think I did OK
I need to get going on some kind of exercise since I can't do my fitness walking because of my heel injury. I may look into a gym membership...GASP!...LOL. I used to enjoy my workouts at a place called "Magic Mirror"...just for ladies. But, they went out of business :( I may check out the gym that's across the freeway from my work; they supposedly will give us(hospital employees) a discount program. I have another Dr's appt for my heel tomorrow. And the insurance game continues...ackkkkk!

Congrats, Shelley, on your "peeking pound" today!! I consider Sat. my weigh-in day but I also peek on Wed. I hadn't gained or lost today, which is good I guess, considering my weekend. (That's a whole other post!) I'm still finding it really hard to stay LC after my weekend indulgences. Looks like the rest of you have the same problem. I'm hanging tough, drinking water and hoping for a pound or two on Sat. That's my story.

Shelley - yep lc bagels! They have asiago cheese and regular bagels. I had the asiago and it was really good. It had 11 net carbs and the plain bagel had 13. They also have 3 kinds of low carb breads you can buy by the loaf. I think one was rosemary and walnut. I need to NOT buy a loaf of that since I've been known to sit down with a loaf of good bread and not even have crumbs left.

I had my sneak peek wednesday too. Down 1/2 a pound! I hope I can keep that and add to it by Sundays weigh-in. But have been a little high on my calories and carbs several days this week. I am doing much better today so far. Looks like I'll end up with only 35 net carbs and 1500 calories.
