Default Hello Im new to the Beach.

Hi my name is Donna, I have done the Atkins Diet and didnt stick with it. My Dr. feels that South Beach would be more manageable for me. I still drink a lot of water and do the Salt Water Cure. Currently at 180 Pounds and would like to lose 40. Heck if I could lose ten I'd dance in my drawers in front of the mirror! (OK that was a lie) I met some really terrific people during my Atkins days and they were so helpful on the LC Chat. My neighbor and I have come up with the idea of curtains for the mirrors in fact!!!!(makes your house look like you have lots of windows) Any suggestions would be great and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Donna

Donna!

Welcome to SB. I find that it is a little easier than Atkins, but any change of habit is hard.

I am trying to get a group going on the LFFGM/W Thread (Looking for a few Good Men/Women). We are looking for some accountability, come and join us!

I made the mistake of starting it right before my computer completely crashed and I went on a week long vacation to Mainland Japan. I am back, my computer should be up by next week and we are ready to go!

Wink Re: Hello Im new to the Beach.

Thanks for stopping in to say hello. I am seriously starting, after I return from a trip to Chicago for my sons Grad.from Navy school. I am doing a quasi Atkins induction and perusing the beach till I return. This way I know I am still in the grazing mode...and not doing too much harm. My official start date is going to be Sept 6th. By then my mind set will be ready for the changes and I will have digested the book.

Hi Donna! My name is Tina and I'm new to the Beach too. I've tried so many different things over the years to lose weight and then it would come back on. I'm doing pretty good on this one I think. I lost 6 pounds in the first 2 wks but I'm staying on the strict phase for one or two more weeks because I really don't find it that bad. I think I've been overdoing it on the nuts for snacks and that is probably why I didn't lose a little more. I really need some support from people in the same boat as me...almost 40 and been trying to lose these pounds forever. I started out on this diet at 213 and I would love to see 150 or 160 by next spring. My daughter will be graduating from college and I don't want these graduation photos to be as depressing to me as her high school graduation photos were. That is one reason...if I needed another one I suppose being able to sit down without your stomach laying over in your lap would be another one!

Hi there. I started out on Atkins but was having a really hard time in counting carbs. I am finding out that SBD is easier to follow especially since I love fruit. Tina, I read somewhere that after two weeks in Phase 1 you should move to Phase 2. After staying in Phase 2 for two weeks that's the only time when you can move back down to Phase 1 again to lose more weight. I hope someone out there can verify this.
But you guys can do this!! One step at a time, one meal at a time, one day at a time. I seriously just move from meal to meal to make sure I stay commited. If I say to myself, I'll be commited for one week, I feel like it's so far away and the days move so slow and I get depressed and then I just eat to make myself feel better. Sigh, we all have our little techniques to get by. What are yours?

Hi all I am also new to the Beach diet, and have started as of 01/03/05 and as today 01/07/05 I have lost 8lbs!!!!!

I only hope that by talking to other people like myself, and really wanting to get this weight off I can follow thru with it. I had a heart attack in March 2004, and have high blood pressure etc, and the Dr. said the weight has to come off, If I want to live a while longer.
But I have such a weakness for Dr. Pepper and candy :(
So together with everyone I know we can all lose it together.

Rhonda

Good luck, Rhonda! We (hubby & I) have been maintaining our weight on South Beach now for around 8 months. We find that we still have to really keep an eye on the weight. It will move up and down 1-4 lbs. When it starts going up, we have to cut back on the amount that we eat and watch what we're eating and then it goes back down. We love the Diet Dr. Pepper, so I know what you mean. Sometimes I'll drink a caffeine free diet Dr. Pepper. While you're still trying to lose weight though, make sure you drink a lot of water. That really does help! Sorry to hear about your heart attack and high blood pressure. Hopefully, South Beach will help you to lose weight and that will be good for your health. Congratulations on the 8 lbs!

Hello All, I too am new to the Beach. I have been on it for 4 days, and am doing great so far. It would be great to meet some new friends and get through this together. I need all the motivation and support I can get. My goal is to loose 50 lbs in 25 weeks. That is 2lbs a week. It doesn't sound bad to me when I think of it that way. Also, when I get tempted to cheat, I have a saying over my desk that says "Nothing Tastes As Good As Being Thin Feels". I thought I would share this will all of you. It helps me. Good luck to all of us.
