I am worried about doing Atkins and being a Vegetarian. I have done this before, with success, but I always see others post about eating 0 carb tuna or other meats. I just think to myself, well no wonder they are doing so well, they can eat more calories/protein without any added carbs. If I eat those Yves veggie meats, they contain quite a few carbs (the evaporated cane juice.) I understand that I have to make some accommodations to make Atkins fit my lifestyle/eating choices, but I sometimes feel a little insecure. Any help/advice would be appreciated!

The morningstar farms products are quite good, and many of them are low in carbs. We especially like the sausage, and the bacon is OK, too. Here is a link to all their low carb products: http://www.kelloggs.com/brand/msfarms/lowcarb.html

| I'm not a vegetarian, but I just found a couple of low carb vegetarian cookbooks at Amazon.com! One is already available. You can view it here. The other one is due to be published in October. That one can be seen here. HTH!

Have you ever read a book called The Schwarzbein Principle? IT allows more carbs than Atkins and she has a chapter on doing her diet as a vegetarian. In fact she even has a vegetarian cookbook out. Just a suggestion.

I started this WOE a long time ago as a vegetarian of 9 plus years and I found it most difficult. I ended up forcing myself to eat meat which was not making me happy. I decided at that time to cut the bad carbs and eat more of my veggies and not worry about not eating meat. A few years later, I do actually eat meat but only fish and turkey. I rarely, if ever can get myself to eat red meat. But sometimes I can and I do. I listen to my body. I recently even at some pork which won't likely happen again for a while but I listened to my body. Vegetarians can keep weight on because they eat a lot of cheese with flour products. If you are a vegetarian mainly eating veggies you will likely drop weight. I just didn't want to only have veggies when I gave up flour, etc. So, I eat tvp tacos, lots of morningstar products and just watch the white carbs (except cauliflower). I guess what I'm saying is make it work for you. Don't try and do Atkins and give up something you believe in, i.e., being a vegetarian.
