Default Rejoined Weight Watchers

I had been doing Weight Watchers and LC for a long time. When I went on vacation in March, I went off of both and found it really hard to get back on any particular plan for any lenghth of time.

I rejoined Weight Watchers last Wednesday and am now following their new Turnaround program. I am doing the Core program part of it. I do not think this is a LC version of WW. However, this plan encourages eating whole foods, rather than processed, so it will be better for many people.

I am not watching carbs, though I tend to keep my meals lower carb most of the time anyway. I was around 247 on Wednesday, the day I started WW and was 239.5 this morning.

I know the reaction many LC-ers have to WW. Just wanted to share.

Ilse,
I have been reading about the new core program. Can you tell us more? I was hoping it would be low carb, though. Anyway, can you give us a sample menu of what you have been eating?
Congrats on the 8 pounds already...wow...you go girl!
I truly believe, whatever works for each person is the way to go.
Best of luck to you

WW had done wonders for many people. I have a girlfriend who lost 63 lbs, and met goal. I've tried before, but never realized the carb addiction. No matter how hard I have tried in the past, I wouldn't give up my daily sweets. It just seems so easy to now. I've thought about WW - just to get the portion control working and learning to eat 'right'. The low carb is going to be with me forever, cause it gives me a chance.

I'll provide you with a couple of links. These are fairly accurate, not totally. It will give you an idea of what's ok to eat. Both of these do have some errors though.

Ilse, I applaud your long term dedication, and am very happy that you've decided on a plan. Thanks for the links--it's an interesting concept for WW, and it will be equally interesting to see how well people do.

Ilse,
Thanks for the links Do you go to meetings, or are you doing the online program?
I have a friend who is thinking about doing the online program; she does not like going to a weekly meeting. I think this might be a good fit for her.

Thanks again!

My daughter had lost around 81 pounds and became a Lifetime member. She stopped going when she got pregnant. We started going together again last week at a location convenient to her work and home. She is going to continue to do the Flex plan (or actually what they had before that) and I am going to work with the Core program.

The benefit of an actual meeting is the weekly accountability and a place to meet others and to encourage and be an encouragement to them as well. If I hadn't stopped going to WW after my March vacation, most likely I would not have gained back almost 30 pounds and maybe would have lost or maintained instead.

The leader said that my letting people know that I used to be 380 amd am not anymore would give many people at that meeting hope that they too can lost majior amounts of weight.

Another link from a WW related message board. The list is the 3rd post on that page:

It looks like this list is accurate.

i agree .. whatever works to help you keep or regain your health is okay in MY book..;-)
and it WILL be inspirational to others at those meetings... after all. you may have hit a bump.. but you are DOING something about it!
vacations seem to be a problem for many.. i know when i went on mine it was at my sons HOME so i was able to keep MY kind of choices around.. and still was able to go out to eat FUN legal stuff..
but as for TRAVELING on trips.. i finally figured out that i LIKE water instead of coke.. and i can get NUTS to munch on instead of chips or crackers... when we stop to eat i LOOK for places familiar and those i know have MY choices of food..salad bars ect.
i applaud you on your renewed dedication and wish you all the best!

My WW WI last night was 231.4. That made it a loss of 5.8 pounds the first week on the WW Core plan. I am down 4.75 inches, mostly in the upper body.

Ilse,
I am SO glad that you found something that will work for you! Congrats on the 6 pound loss (come on... we can round up)! You're doing great! Glad to see it. Just curious... do you like this new plan? I guess I would if I lost 5.8 pounds in a week.

Debby,

I do like it so far. It's been easier than I thought and most of the time I'm not sturggling with hunger or any kind of cravings. I don't expect week 2 to be as dramatic, of course.

It looks like you did really well returning to Atkins.

I'm giving some thought to stopping in at WW after next week (next week is just too much going on) -
I had tried before, in the past, with meetings - but could never find a way to give up my goodies and failed. Now, LC has controlled the cravings, but I still think I have problems with portion sizes and choices. I'm doing well with LC as far as eating healthier than I ever have before, but I think I need a little more 'training'.

Ilse,

It sounds like it is the thing for you. That's great! As I said before, I'm very happy that you've found something that's going to work.

Yes, thankfully, I have done really well returning to Atkins. For some reason, it just wasn't as hard this time. I stopped counting carbs in mid-August. I think that has really helped me to make the mental shift from "diet" to Way of Life.

Things are going well. Started exercising again last week. So, it's 2 weeks in a row now that I've gotten in 4 days of exercise. It sure helps.

Wishing you much continued success! Who knows... maybe when I get down below my WW Lifetime goal weight (140), I'll start checking in there once a month again (since it will be free ).
