Hello I am loosely following the Fat Flush plan. ONe of my big gripes is the fact that she severely restricts herbs as well as salt. For diet purposes, Ann L.G. says only these herbs, spices and accompaniments are allowed: Anise, apple cider vinegar (raw not processed), bay leaves, cayenne, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cumin, cream of tartar, dill, dried mustard (but not prepared with to the best of my knowledge is vinegar & dried mustard seeds of various kinds). Fennel, flaxseeds, garlic, ginger, jalape?os, onion powder, and tumeric. All others are forbidden for reason she states somewhere but I cannot find. Other health advocates actually recommend some of the omitted ones. Anyone have any ideas as to why she singled these out and nixed the rest? DDee

DDee, Welcome to LCE ![]() My guess would be that those herbs and seasonings you have there are the ones that are particularly useful in immune building and detoxifying. I'm not the expert here, though, on this subject. Hopefully, one of our other "herbies" will pop in and give a hand Personally, I can't imagine life without peppermint...

HI, Pealark, I've heard of the Fat Flush plan, but I've never read the book, so I don't even have a guess for you. Sharron's idea about the ones allowed being especially beneficial (at least in Gittelman's view) might have something to do with it, but then why not especially encourage those but still allow the rest? This is a real pet peeve of mine, when authors make a pronouncement like that without going into the reasons. Grrrrr. You say you're "loosely" following the plan - what did you decide to do about the herbs etc.? Alice

| I'm scratchin' my head on that one too, since I haven't read the book either. But I AM curious. Alice, I'm still having a hard time adjusting to this full time gig. It just wipes me out. My daughter is about ready to pop any time now. She's two cm's dialated. I've been giving her red raspberry capsules to uterine tonifying. I hope it help her have a speedy delivery. I'm waiting on pins and needles to hear from her that she's in REAL labor. She thought she was having contactions today but they stopped. I am going to call her right now.

Hi Alice, What I decided to do about the herbs was to scrap FF entirely and go with Rosedale. And am I ever glad I did. Immeidately I dropped 6 lbs, and I had been on a l-o-n-g stall with FF. The programs are not so very different, except Rosedale is much more anti-grain and anti-dairy than FF is. But he allows herbs, and NUTs! Yay. I feel better, and I'm dropping weight again. so I guess it is Rosedale for me. I've been enthusiastic before, though. But this time I think I'm closer than ever before. For one thing, after months of very low carbs, I'm not at all hungry or craving. And I cannot have snacks on this one either, so it isn't the amount of food. In fact, he doesn't not allow all the protein you want, it is "optomized" so that you take in neither too much nor too little. (Excess protein is metabolized into sugar and it makes it that much easier for your body to take it's preferred food. You want to force it to burn fat. So I can have things like nuts and avacados, but not carrots or stuff like that.) He makes it clear that some people are naturally fat burners, with very sensitive leptin recpetors, but for those of us who are not, we can still achieve the same level of health (and slimness) by forcing the body into that mode. I never would have dreamed that 3 oz of protein per meal 3 x per day would be enought for me. But it seems to be. The only down side is that you have to have Cod Liver Oil. But it is lemon flavored now days and goes down OK, but I do belch it. Small price to pay if my appetite stayes completely down like it is. DDee

Hey, Pealark, I have the Rosedale book, but I haven't really read it carefully. You have inspired me to take a closer look. I'll check back in and let you know what I think. I take the Carlson lemon flavored cod liver oil and fish oil. I'm lucky not to have the burping situation. Bye for now, alice
