You are a nurse, so rather active. You are about the same height as I am. Even right now with my activity level being light, I rack up at 12 blocks. Honestly though, I eat more like 16 and can still lose (as long as I get in enough water and don't eat grains!!! ) The biggest issue is the insulin balance as far as I can see. When I'm off, that is when I have issues.

Sharron,
Using the Zone link above, I still come in at 10 blocks. I am only using the light activity factor since I am not doing any fitness walking at this time. Even when I bump up to "active", I get 11 blocks That may very well have been my problem all along(for the last 22 months anyway). I am consuming to much protein. I will give this a trial run and see how I feel. I may have to adjust things at some point, but I'll give it a go and see. I'm gonna figure out my body one way or the other...LOL...stubborn as it is

NOPE! Back up the truck again, Shell. There's no such thing as 9 blocks. The minimum is 11. Not specific in the first book, but Sears in later books recommends no less than 11. Any fewer and we take the risk of not being able to get in enough nutrients and/or eat enough to keep BG stable. You probably need to get "Mastering the Zone" from the library if you don't have it. I believe that book is a better one for actually explaining the basic plan. The first Zone book really lacks a lot of the "practicals>"

So no matter what you get in your calcs, the min is 11.

OK, in practice there are a few folks who do ok on less than 11. The ones I've heard of, though, are very tiny women, under/way under 5" and very sedentary. Some Asian women, for exampe.

Ok....I did my measurements again and entered them in the zone link; I get 11 blocks. Wheeewwww...I was thinking 9 blocks was going to be tough!
I still get 60 gm on the protein requirements though when I do the calculation per the formula in the book, but the website says 77 gm; that is very deceiving, I think.
Well, I will do 11 blocks then.
I may go (again) to the bookstore tomorrow and look for "Mastering the Zone".
My book is "Enter the Zone", from 1995 it looks like.
Thanks for the tip, Bren.
See....what would I do with out you gals????? So which one of you wants custody of the dufeus here???? LOL.

The website says 77, Shell, because it defaults to the minimum 11 blocks if you happen to calculate out at less--based on what I said above. Just as a hint, too, the mini-block guide on the site is more accurate than the one in the first book, and more extensive. There were some errors in the first book, such as the rating of pineapple. Anyway, it'd probably see safer to print out the guide from the site.

Hey, there's no dufuses here! Just like Atkins, as knowledge changes, the plan changes a bit along the way The info on the site is always current, however.

I'm sure the thought of 9 blocks scared you--LOL it sure would have scared me!!!!

Yeah, Bren, I figured that was their default setting. I plugged in a few *fantasy* numbers, and kept getting 11 blocks and 77gm...LOL.
I had saved my first work sheet when I started zoning on Oct. 16th and I found my error in calculating my pro requirements. So, it was a scarey moment indeed, to re-calculate and discover my protein requirment was only 60 gms...YIKES!!!!!!
Obviously, to this meat eater, that was a fate worse than canned spinach...LOL.
So, I am going to try and stay at 11 blocks, but if I eat 12, I don't think I will freak out about it

Well....so far, so good, with those darn Halloween Snickers sitting in the living room...LOL. I waited until the last minute to buy the candy, like 2 hours ago...then we went to Outback Steakhouse on our dinner date. I cut my steak in half to almost the size of my palm, had salad with my own ff Italian dressing, and had fresh steamed veggies; had some sf jello and a kiwi when we got home.
I weighed the remaining half of steak when I got home, and it was 3.5 oz, so I know I didn't OD on protein using the *eyeball* method...wheeeeww.
The thought of candy does not EVEN appeal to me, which is kinda weird, but I'm more than OK with that! Now if the trick or treaters will just come and take it all away, I will have escaped the chocoholics curse...muahahahahaaa.......

Will weigh in the a.m. Oh, yoooohooooo, whoosh fairy, where are you?

Checking in! Well, I got lots done today, and I'm pooped. If DH hadn't gotten hungry for lunch, I don't think I'd have noticed what time it was. anyway, I had a Quiznos coupon and sent him for take out. I sure wonder if those low carb Toasty Flatbreads really are low carb. I can't say I was totally out of the Zone, but I have been hungrier than usual this evening.

Funny you mention candy, Shell. Some years I'm totally uninterested, and some years I tell DH to hide the stuff, just in case. LOL, this year is a "just in case" year.

Best to you on your weigh in. Hope you get a visit from you know who, although the Zone is a bit off her beaten flight path :silly:

Bren, I know what you mean about the game called *hide the candy*
I gave it all away except, 4 fun size bars. So far, it has NOT even called my name; I plan to take the candy to work tomorrow and put it on my boss's desk; there are lots of non LC chocoholics where I work, so it will be gone in no time

Whooshie did visit for 1.5 lbs...yippeee-skipeee! So 5 lbs down since starting the Zone on 10/16/04. I am sooooo thankful

Say, can I run this recipe by you? I would like to know if I got it right.
I found it on the zone site, but did a little tweak to suit my needs...heh.
Anyways:
1/3 c (1 oz)rolled oats = 2C blocks
1/4 c lf cottage cheese = 1P block
2 egg whites = 1P block
stevia, cinnamon, splash of vanilla extract...freebies
Made awesome pancakes I was desperately needing something different for brekki. I don't mind eating the same thing for lunch everyday, or almost the same I should say. But breakfast I really look forward to, and I like something special on the weekends, ya know?
Anyhoo, I put 3 strips turkey bacon for 1P block, and nuked half an apple with cinnamon and stevia and a tsp of smart balance and put on top of these pancakes...WOW!

Hope you have a great day

Congrats, Shelley!! :jump: Nice whoosh ey, but I give you all the credit, ya know.

The recipe looks good to me. Actually really good, LOL!!! Just as a side note, I don't get all worked up about using only egg whites as Sears does. I use high omega3 whole eggs rather fearlessly for the complete and available protein they contain--another of my Zone quirks. However, in this recipe the egg whites probably do produce a nicer pancake. Great recipe Shell!!!!

Well the Halloween candy is gone, without mishap. DH even handed out the goodies yesterday, since I was trying hard to finish some jewelry to take to the shop today. But ya know, I was in the kitchen when he was opening the bags, and that chocolate smell wafted out and really called my name. Whew.

Keeping myself busy today, unpacking the living and dining room
