| Hi Gabbie, It is my understanding, CAD was the first book by the Hellers, followed by CALP. I did CALP for a while last year, but unfortunately, I didn't have the sticktoitiveness. I think it is a very good food plan for those who have enough discipline to master the *reward* meal. Post often; there maybe some more folks following CALP that will start posting if this forum shows some activity. Best of luck on your weight loss journey Shelley

| Hi Gabbie I did read the Calp and CAD books years ago but I never followed the plans. I just wanted to let you know that if you are in the main part of the Carb Addicts Forum - scroll down to display options and find - showing thread from the last 10 days. from the drop down box change it to last year or beginning. That will let you see some older posts that currently you aren't seeing. |

| Thanks Shelley and Rob - will check further. Shelley, is that you - chat - a year or so ago - SHELLEY!! Actually, it is the RM that appeals. I have been doing it for about 5 days now and it has a greater feel of freedom but I agree, one has to look carefully at that particular meal. Last night we got it wrong a little because there was rice with the meal and we also wanted a fresh fruit salad. After eating we felt a new heaviness and realised that it would have been better if we had reduced the rice by a 3rd to make space for the carb rich fruits. Still, we have both (there are 2 out of 3 in the house doing CAD/CALP) lost weight this morning and I slept through for 8 hours which is unheard of!!!!!! I will do my best with the posts - am I allowed to use a Thread as a kind of journal? Gabbie

| Hi Gabbie! Yep, it's me from *Chat* You can do one of several things if you want to journal. You can stay in this forum and start yourself a new thread, like a *CALP check-in* where you can list your foods and how you are doing, or you can head over to the journal section and set yourself up a journal for a little more individualized and private feeling...either one if fine Best wishes on your weight loss journey, and welcome *home* Shelley

| Gabbie, To answer your question...CAD was misinterpretted by some to have the RM be a Carb-fest. I don't think it included the RM salad either. The CALP book would be more current on the thinking of the Hellers. They had a new book come out this year. It was a 7-day get back on the program type of book. They advised not eating the carbs throughout the meal (don't do a bite of meat, a bite of potato, a bite of LC veggie, but rather making the carb portion of the meal as short as possible (fill up on protein and LC veggies first, then have the carbs in a shorter time-span. I think their thinking on this approach was the make the carb-hit the system for as short a time possilbe, even less than the one hour RM allowed time. ie don't linger over the desert and make it take 40 minutes to eat it. (I hope I am making sense). I have a three books and am happy to reference them for you if need be.

| Thank you Ilse. We have been doing CALP for about 7 days now. Would you see any point in us changing the plan on the basis of the new book. I have to say that generally I feel better than I have for sometime and the weight is dropping slowly - so far. At my age I wouldn't want to lose too quickly and also, I really want a woe that I can keep to for the long haul rather than a `diet' that can be altered. The RM seems to me to be a much healthier and more balanced way than when I was doing Atkins. I struggled with the idea of so little in carbs, particularly those from fruit and vegetables and then having to consider taking a pile of supplements. There are 2 of us in the house doing CALP and for the most part we are having our RM as the evening meal (makes it easier for the other member) - protein and vege followed by fresh fruit salad and yoghurt. So far it is working OK. Are you doing CAD/CALP? I have been looking for the books in the library - haven't found the new one yet but I wonder if it won't add a titch of confusion to my already aging brain Interested in your thoughts when you have the time. Ta! Gabbie

| The newest book is more for those who have lost their way and need a plan to get back again. I don't think you need to worry about it. Can your library order it for you? I got my copy from www.bamm.com. They have a deal for free shipping if you order more than $25. I have been doing the WW Core plan. I like it, but I have fallen off the wagon for a while. I need to get refocused. I lost over 100 pounds doing CALP on my own in a year, so I know it works. I'll check in here if you want me to.
