| I have a caveman story to share. After I had a mild brain stroke, A friend pushed the Atkins book on me. I was pretty much out of it so I had to make it simple. I eat more variety these days but when I was 210 and 5'10" and stroking and half blind and whole confused this is what this cave man did. For three month I ate nothing but medium cheddar cheese and pepperoni, and as much of it as I liked. And as amazing as it sounds I lost 40 pounds in that three months. I get blood work all the time as I have other ongoing health issues and my colesterol was far improved. The thing was I needed it simple, because some days I was SIMPLE. I threw all my plates, silverware and pots and pans in the dumpster. I busted the glass and said good riddens! I bought a bunch of paper plates, plastic forks and styro-foam cups. After two years of recovery I still have a perfectly clean set of dinnerware awaiting me day and night every day and no DISHES!!!!! I slowly got away from my caveman diet and finally back into my old habits of brown rice and veggie. And have gained half the weight back. So back on the horse I go, but this time I am healthier of mind and spirit. And am eager to learn lots of low-carb dishes. Last week I bought 4 of Dana Carpender's low-carb books as well as the Power of Ten exorcise book. It will be interesting and indeed I have already attempted a few dishes and devised one myself. http://www.lowcarbeating.com/bb/showthread.php?t=11765 There are pots and pans in my kitchen again and a few knives and such. But praise the Lord I get to keep my Paper Plates, PLastic Forks, and Styro-Foam Cups. I love throwing those things away! p.s. For the enviromentally friendly among us, I'll mention that I owned and operated a hauling & recycling business for years (Poor Boy's Hauling) and have recycled hundreds of tons of most everything from bicycles to rabbit manuer, clothes, toys, furniture and scrap metal, wood and plastics of all kinds. So I will commit my little plastic sins as long as this caveman draws breath and feel real good about it each and every time ; v) Last edited by stephen_tacoma_wa; 12-23-2004 at 05:10 AM. |

| Hi Sharron! Frozen Green beans straight from the freezer is my favorite treat, I eat them like candy. I do the veggies now, it was just through those first few months after the stroke I had to keep it super simple, zero cooking, zero dishes, etc. Later I added califlower etc. On impulse I bought four of Dana Carpenders books last week. In the future I look forward to checking out you books as well as Jennifer Eloff's. Wow you've gotten some great feedback reviews on your Cuisine book at Amazon. Your ..On The Go book just made my buy soon list. I love my paper plates. I am my paper plates. |

| I use as many paper products as possible. I also use the glad/ziplock storage containers for ... well, storing as well as transporting and eating at work. I still seem to have my hands in dishwater a few times per day. ![]()

| I think it's a single guy thing. I use paper plates for as many meals I can. But only if I eat alone at home. When I have company I put out the real plates. As for plastic forks I just don't like using them unless I'm camping or at a party. Do you think Rob uses paperplates also? ![]() |

| I'll use a paper plate, nestled in a bamboo holder, every chance I get. That's usually for a serving of pork rinds or a few slices of cheese. Most of the time we use the trusty ol' Corel dishes. Anything that's even the slightest bit juicy--cauliflower, hamburger, etc can be more of a mess on a paper plate than a glass dish is to clean. As for plastic ware...hate it! I do use plastic spoons at work and will use a plastic fork if I think it'll do the trick, but I even have a real fork tucked inside my desk drawer. As for Rob, I would bet he's not a paper plate man. I imagine him eating with metal utensils off ceramic plates...then walking in place as he washes, rinses, dries and puts each piece away.
