Question Curves Diet

I have been working out at Curves on and off for the past two years. The manager at the location where I attend is awesome...she is an expert on nutrition and has an incredible warm and supportive personality.

When I was stumbling the last few months, she mentioned that I might consider the Curves Diet. It was not a hard sell at all...I really think she supports Atkins, but thought I might need a change. I want to continue the lc woe and I know they have a lowcarb option

SOOOO, I am thinking about it, although I don't like the idea of jumping around...I think my biggest problem with Atkins has been my focus. They are starting a new class in the next month or so and I need to decide what to do.

Does anyone have any experience with the Curves diet and if so, what can you tell me...good...bad...indifferent...If I understand correctly, they claim that their diet can help correct a sluggish metabolism.

I trust everyone here for some good constructive advice...

Thanks!
Meg

Meg: I don't have any personal experience with this, but I'll say two things I'm pretty convinced about...

1. some people do better with a local, in person, support group. so if curves is going to support you in your diet effort, that might be just what you need.
2. my understanding is that Curves takes more of a "good carb" approach rather than "low carb" approach. Which is fine FOR SOME PEOPLE. depends on your level of metabolic resistance, from what I can gather. It's certainly worth a try, just see how you do. If eating the extra carbs (albeit "good" ones) starts cravings and all, then you have your answer on that. But there's no benefit to living at a carb level below what YOUR BODY NEEDS to lose, so why not give it go?

As for their diet "correcting" a sluggish metabolism, I'd have to say this: the EXERCISE your doing is probably doing far more in that department than what you're eating

But every little bit helps.

I don't know if that made things clearer or murkier... but I hope it gave you some food for thought. You've already done fabulously, so maybe you just need a little change of pace to get you going again.

Either way, I'm really impressed with your dedication and persistence to find what works for you. You're a real inspiration!

I've been really thinking about trying thier diet too, I just joined last week, and love the idea of someone being on hand to answer any questions instead of being so overwhelmed with all the choices out there.

I have been on the Curves diet plan for 7 weeks now. I am following their low calorie plan which limits carbs to 60 mg. and calories to 1200 for the first week and 1600 for stage 2. I have been very careful to keep my carbs to 60 mgs. I have been able to get the calories to 1200, but have been unable to get anywhere close to 1600 cals. I have lost 3# of fat and can tell that I have firmed up and conditioned a bit, but the scale says I have only lost 2# of weight and I am becoming very discouraged. I seem to have hit a plateau, as the weight has been stable for several weeks now. I want to lose more weight so that my clothes fit better. Any ideas??

Welcome, Debbie.

I'm not familiar with the Curves eating plan. I do know that most low carb eating plans are lifetime plans which ulitmately normalize a persons weight. The rate at which a person loses has a lot to do with metabolic status, age, and how far one is from a normal weight.

Hope you'll make yourself at home.

I started out with the curves diet and there was not a big change when I went to Atkins. Andrea is right though they use more carbs and focus on teh good ones.

They did have a couple different plans in the book I got, one counts calories (which I assume debbie is on) while one does not. I don't have the book anymore so I can't give you the specifics like carb counts but I do remember that you count all carbs but your free foods list and that was a big one, lots of veggies.

I ultimately decided Atkins was the way to go once I started the plan. But I did not do the Curves plan for a long time before I decided to change. Why did I change? I can't quite remember but looking thruogh my journal entries it seems I was losing on both.

I've probably been no help whatsoever but I think you'll ulitmately make the right choice for you. And maybe a class setting would be good for the support if you need it.

60 mgs = 60 milligrams (or 0.002 ounce). What are you trying to measure, cec?

one of the posts from the curves response said she keeps her carb intake at 60mgs and Iwas not sure what she meant. I low carb at 50 to 72 digestable carbs a day am new at this and am trying to follow The plan outlined in the book Life without Bread, I try to keep my calories between 1600 to 1800 a day but do exercise regularly.Thought maybe the mgs was something different Thanks Cec

60 mgs is not even one gram of carbs. I'm sure the writer was mistaken or it was a typo.

Less than a gram of carbs per day isn't a low carb diet, it's a no-carb diet. There's no way one could get any veggies at all with 60 mg. The writer probably meant 60 gm.

Hello everyone,I am just starting on the low carb plan, and at the moment am having 30 gram of a carb a day,I have lost 2.g kilo in the 7 days, and I am delighted with that,I was feeling a bit rough for a couple of days ,but I found today (day7)I had more energy and felt more alert, and was interested in doing more in the house,I seem to have lost my craving for sweet foods, and havent missed my bread,I remember many yrs ago (32yrs)I went on a low carb program, and the allowance was 60grams a day, I didnt have much as weight to lose then,(aprox 12kg at the time) and it came off in 3months,I realize my metabolism would have been a lot faster then, and being a fulltime working Mum as well as having a family ment I was more active,I would be interested in knowing how many carbs a day is everyone else having , and at what rate are they losing ??and I would love to be 40 kg lighter bye xmas , any suggestions to help me reach my goal....hope to hear from you all ..regards Maureen, Tasmania Australia

Post Re: Curves Diet

I can't really speak for right now, because I am just three days into Atkins again, but the first time I started this WOE, I lost 16Lbs. in two weeks. Hope I don't sound unintelligent by not being able to tell you that in kg's, but I don't know off the top of my head how to convert that (or even if i'd have to?) Ha! Sorry, it may not seem this way, but I do really well in school
Anyway, I was having as few carbs as possible, and with some meats having a few carbs, that was probably 15 - 20 carbs per day.
Do be sure thought that you are doing what is right for you, Lord knows I'm just trying to get back to eating no carbs myself, so it's been a rough week but it can only get better, I'll tell you that much!
Hope this helps a bit.

Sarah, I hope you are not really aiming at "no carbs." It is very important to eat lots of veggies - and you can have quite a bit and still stay at 20 gms. Then you can add more and more (along with nuts and fruit) during OWL.
