Default Give up ALL dairy for first 2 weeks ?

Well, i just checked out this book from my library -- just checking it out

but one thing i did read on one web site yesterday --

in their "induction" period, it says no dairy for 2 week
*yikes*
i dont think i can do that. i can give up cheese (havent had any for 2 days now)
but I dont see how i can go 2 weeks without H&H in my coffee
jsut plain yick -- and i wont give up coffee

how important is this, no dairy thing?

Terese,
I did a brief stent on SBD...maybe a month or so...long story...
Anyway, I think it's very important in phase 1 to give up the dairy; I mean, we wouldn't want to ingest potatoes on Atkins Induction; so I think for SBD as what Dr. Atkins said about Atkins induction...it's the kiss of death to think *one little bite won't hurt*.
I did without dairy for 2 weeks, but I don't drink cream in my coffee either. And yep...I wouldn't give up my coffee, but fresh brewed decaf wasn't that bad...so I don't think I suffered to much
Good luck in whatever you decide

just my $.02

Shelley,

i've been reading the book and he does not say to give up dairy for the 2 weeks (YEA!)
I happend to read that on one of the web sites i browsed.

he says, low fat dairy. LF or skim milk (will be very hard to get used to) and low fat (part skim) cheeses

it really does sound pretty do-able.... but i have always found that if i go too low on fat, i get really hungry.

i'm going to finish reading the book and take it from there.

Terese,
You know...I was thinking I had some dairy, like the lowfat ricotta cream treat during the first 2 weeks of SBD. Now I remember! I couldn't look it up for you, 'cause I loaned my book out and it has not come back home yet ...prolly never will, for that fact.
Anyway...yeah...I don't think SBD is any more difficult to follow that first 2 weeks than Atkins really.
Good luck

Shelley

Terese - I have been on phase one for a few days now and I almost had a cow (no pun intended) when you posted no dairy! I checked my book and found that it isn't so - thankfully. I love my dairy!

Hi all! I'm new in town. This is my very first post.) This is my second hitch at SBD. I did it 2 years ago and did it very well. My friend called me the other day and asked me to go on it again with her. She bought a new book. I still had mine from 2 yrs ago. Apparently he has revised the diet. Mine says NO dairy for the first two weeks. Hers says you can have low fat or skim milk. I was sure happy to learn about the revision. This time around its much easier because I'm more creative with my cooking and am enjoying a lot more variety. I've only got 5 more days of my two weeks to go. Its funny because of all things to look forward to having after the two weeks I am looking forward to a bowl of oatmeal. Eggs are great but not every single day.
